I don't know, maybe some of my possible English speaking LJ friends would be interested to watch the short video of Russian house has got totally under snow...I had watched it in our Russian political program when our journalists have been discussing the problems of Texas and a necessity for Europeans to fight for our cheap gas if this winter ( Read more... )

In Australia in flood prone areas of North Queensland houses are built on stilts, so that if it floods the water doesn't reach the height of the house.

Can't that same thing happen in regions like in that video where they get a huge amount of snow? Then instead of the house getting buried, it remains above the snowline. They can exit the house down onto the top surface of the snow.

Of course it could and happens regularly…

Yep but the mentioned region is not very rich cause all resources and money earned by citizens go to nearby China as more interesting for investment, so the left living there presumably poor to spend more than necessary on house, many are living at poor built from stolen wood houses and on illegally seized sites where it was not allowed to build at USSR times cause it is dangerous...
