I think the greatest indicator of the software today is that it is virtually everywhere, even in an applience such as a glass-ceramic kitchen stove. I see the proof of its existence in the fact that our stove today became unresponsive. I thus had to reboot it - a cold reset by disconnecting and reconnecting the relevante fuse did the trick.
