Life is good

I have a job, not a great one, not regular hours, but it's steady enough, and close enough to walk to, with some rewards, not monetary but of the feel-good variety (though monetary would make me feel good too!) I'm still regularly looking for other better work. The census office called a week or so ago to confirm my information and availability, so I'm anticipating another call from them soon for the next round of work. I loved the few weeks I did in the spring!
My family is doing well, though I'm worried about both sons, one in Qatar until the end of the year, and the other with his almost-homeless family (including my incredibly sweet grandson who turned 9 months old today) living in an unfinished basement without a job and with a major mortgage to pay on an unsold house across the country... ...   they're all healthy and happy enough, though, and my sister lives next door and she's doing alright too, we play Scrabble every weekend and take day-trips for short hikes or bike rides.
The garden is in flux, some things producing in abundance, some sprouting up that will grow or at least stay green through the winter. I like to keep something growing in it all the time, so have tried to figure out where to plant things so there's enough room to start the next season's plants before the old ones come out. It's like a puzzle and I enjoy the challenge. The compost is getting gifts from neighbors, crab shells and seaweed in particular, wonderfully rich in trace minerals. I gave stringbeans to a lady who brought me fresh figs and she gave some stringbeans to the guy she got the figs from, and then he gave me more fresh figs a few days later! Last night I gave some strawberries to a guy who has been giving me fresh eggs from his chickens because his chickens have been eating all his strawberries! Another friend who I gave stringbeans to let me pick more fresh figs and some peaches too. I learned you can freeze the figs whole, on a cookie sheet, then have them in the middle of winter as a special treat.
My freezer is getting loaded with the most wonderful fruits & veggies! I'm delighted and look forward to enjoying them little by little, in warm goodies, during the coming cold dark season. It'll bring some light into my heart, thinking of the generosity shared among my neighbors & friends.
