"If you feel, you heal"

Greaser's Palace (1972)
Dir. Robert Downey Sr.

I watched this movie at Phil "The Professor" Mann's house a week ago and it stuck with me. It's hard to explain in so few words, you really just need to see it. The Professor described it as a "western religious comedy", which it is, but that doesn't really do it justice. It takes place in the 1800s in a small town where a man named "Jessy", obviously the Jesus character, is traveling through to Jerusalem to become a singer/dancer/actor who happens to be able to heal people. People get killed very often, sometimes several times because of Jessy healing them. There is alot of repeating dialogue too, a man with a cane who is healed and proclaims "I CAN CRAWL AGAIN!" and keeps coming back into the movie at random moments yelling said phrase, an old man who jumps out of nowhere constantly screaming "PUT A ROPE AROUND THE SON OF A BITCH!" and my favorite, the son of Greaser, Lamy Homo, is killed by his father i think 4 times throughout the movie very graphically and each time he comes back he says "Dad, I was swimming in a rainbow with millions of babies... and they was naked... and then all of the sudden I turned into a perfect smile!" A 10 year old Robert Downey Jr. made a cameo too, he gets his throat slit pretty quick though, not a big role. I need to buy this movie and watch it again.
