Anyone here from upstate NY? I have a bit of a dilemma.
We adopted a mouse from Petco last night (actual adoption, not buying from the store and calling it adoption) to accompany our little female, Stardust, as her cagemate, Ziggy, died a few weeks ago. I swear to the heavens this mouse was a female when we left Petco. It was a female when I double and triple checked last night. It was NOT a female when I woke up this morning!
Since we quarantine, no damage has yet been done, but we can't keep this little thing. He's a sweetheart and gorgeous, but I don't even know if our vet is comfortable neutering such a tiny thing (she's done all of our male rats, but they're just a hair larger, you know) and I'm sure she'd charge an arm and a leg.
If there is anyone within an hour or two of Syracuse, NY that is willing to take him, we'll go half way, three quarters of the way, perhaps even all the way there to get him to a safe home. They gave me a hard time about sending him back to Petco, but I'd rather not do that anyway. Once we bring an animal into our home, we feel responsible for making sure that it is safe and healthy wherever it ends up.
Thanks in advance.
