Lol, we are a few...my friends are almost all very religious, and I kinda hate that, even if I try to respect their beliefs...because they respect mine a lot, so I guess I can't complain about them :) I don't really have a stance ON religion, I'd say I have a stanc AGAINST religions. I think they bring out the worst off people. To quote Louis Cypher (Satan from 'Angel Heart'): "They say there's enough religion in the world to make men hate each other, but not enough to make them love". I totally agree with this. You could call me atheist I think, I'm a very materialist person, the only things that call my spiritual side are animals and landscapes. I once had a period in which I made some research about buddhism...I read some books and I discovered that I couldn't really call that a religion: I think buddhism is more like a path to the optimization of the individual, I consider it a very logic and scientific kind of approach to the whole spiritual thing, and I love it a lot. But I don't call myself a religious person because I don't really think about these matters, does this make me a little shallow? I'm still asking myself that sometimes.
I'm glad your friends respect your beliefs. The world would be a completely different place is everyone thought like that. I like your quote from Louis Cypher. My opinion of organized religion is that it is the ruination of the planet. That usually gets me some surprised, and pissed off looks from people, but I truly believe it. Wars have been fought since the beginning of time in the name of religion, are still being fought and will continue to do so, as long as one group believes their way is the only way. My brother, who at one time went into a seminary is now a Buddhist. I don't know much about it, except as you said, it's a path to optimization of the individual. This is my personal philosphy as well. Feeling spirituality in animals and landscapes is a very grounded healthy way to feel also. You see the big picture, not the "group mentality" that is demanded of by all religions. You have an open mind, and that isn't shallow at all.
I agree on everything you said! I strongly believe 'religion' has got to be an individual matter: for me it means that every people should keep this place inside and protected from others. It's not something I'd think of sharing with people, it's something that's just mine, and defines my inner self in a unique way. I don't like those groups where people get together and has discussions about these subjects, I think it's stupid in the worst way...and then I actually resent a lot strongly religious people, and sometimes it's hard for me to point out the way they are worng in my eyes, but I've learnt to restrain myself...it's just that their behaviour imo is a cheap way to handle their feelings. How can mature adult person think that going to church once a week or more can save your soul?! I still see it as immaturity...I can't not think differently. I hope I wasn't too strong above, but I like it when I can talk about these things without people around me worrying because they love but I'm TOTALLY going to hell ;)
