Personality: Despite his rough childhood, Mason is a very kind and caring person. He often finds himself taking in stray animals for a short time to care for them until he finds a new home for them, or a no kill shelter. He is a very trust worthy person, and in turns trusts most people upon initial meeting.. He's extremely forgiving as well, though he puts that to the fact that he's always had people in his life to forgive. He has a very easy going temper, but when he does get mad, he tends to stay that way for quite a while and has to cool off by himself, often not wanting to see the person he's angry with. He's never been one to cling to the past, always looking to the future. His disaster of a childhood made him extrememly interested in the law and justice system and wanting to help people who didn't know how to free themselves of horrible situations.
Women have always mystified Mason, and he's always chalked it up to his bookwormish ways and his occasional foray into the far too literal. While he's a natural leader in most places, the classroom and the basketball court especially, he's never been able to take the lead with a woman, and the few relationships he's been in, he's often been told what to do instead of it being a cooperative situation. Because of this, he's always taken more time with his studies and found it much easier to be friends with girls.

History:
Mason spent most of his childhood being sheltered by his older brother, Jamison. He was only a few years old when their father died and their mother began drinking, leaving Mason with no real memories of his parents actually being parents, and there are some days when he wishes the ones he had of his mother were not real. He grew up in blissful ignorance of just how abusive his mother could be until Jamison went to his one and only high school dance, leaving Mason at home to study thinking at fourteen he was okay to take care of himself for a few hours. His mother came in raging drunk about some boyfriend who'd left her and he found himself the target of her wrath, being beaten and tossed around. The only clear thought he can remember from that night was wondering how such a small woman could be so strong. That night his brother told him about all of the abuse, including the sexual, and they vowed to stick it out until Jamison was eighteen and could get them away from her for good.
Mason spent his junior and senior years in high school reinventing himself and pretending New Jersey had never exsisted. While he was busy making friends and staring on the basketball team, his brother was working a lot of odd jobs to get them by. He cracked the books hard and the basketball court even harder hoping to get a scholarship somewhere so that Jamie wouldn't have to worry about money any longer. When he got a full scholorship to the University of Tennessee he quickly accepted and left his brother to his own devices, letting him live his life. He never got back home much, working through the breaks so that he wouldn't have to rely on his brother any longer. It wasn't until he didn't recieve a response to his graduation invitation that he knew something had been hidden from him in all their phone calls.
Despite being accepted to New York University's law school on a partial scholorship, he decided to defer for a year, which quickly turned to three, in order to find his brother. He worked his own share of odd jobs along the way, quick to do almost anything for enough money to get him to the next place he might find his brother. In the end, it was Jamison's beloved Impala that led him to Napa Valley, California and to his brother. He was devestated by the lifestyle the man had fallen into and desperate to get him out.
Once he'd gotten Jamie away fom the cult they moved to New York and Mason officially began law school. One night while out at a bar with some friends he found himself completely entranced by the young woman singing on stage. Catching the young woman outside, he introduced himself and they wound up talking for hours and became good friends. He followed her to many of her shows, becoming her biggest fan and supporter, even finding the ad in the newspaper for Red Brick Records and calling the company up to have them send someone to listen to her play. The problem with this however is the fact that Mason would much prefer to say that Bella was his girlfriend, rather than just a friend who happens to be a girl. He later introduced Bella and his brother who hit it off as well. Not long after Jamie got the job as Bella's manager, he set Mason up with a job in the mail room at Red Brick to earn extra money. He now spends early mornings and late afternoons sorting through the mountains of mail they get a day, delivering them to their proper places and swearing at his paper cuts. He occasionally acts as a gofer, delivering packages and going to get coffee and other minor errands when needed.
RP Sample:
Sometimes, Mason wondered what it would be like to be more like his brother. To be that... easy around women. Watching him was like watching some foreign Don Juan put the moves on your girlfriend. Because sometimes Mason secretly pretended that Bella was indeed his girlfriend and there was the fact that Jamison sometimes just couldn't help putting the moves on people. He oozed self-confidence and sexuality like a dog in heat. It was somewhere between sickening and envious. He didn't want to call his brother a man whore... which was completely inaccurate, because that's exactly what he wanted to call him. Most of the time, that's what he was. Mason ordered another coke when the waitress came by. He hated when the three of them went to dinner, Jamie monopolized the conversation and Bella just sort of fell into him. Who didn't fall into Jamison? That's who he was, that's why he'd been such an ideal pick in the cult. He lured people in without trying.
Mason was well aware that he was highly jealous of his brother in some aspects, but there were many things he wouldn't trade. The chance he had to get away, to make something of himself. He was getting to do what he'd always wanted, help people. He was also aware that Bella was now speaking to him and he had no idea what she was talking about. He slapped himself mentally. Way to put his foot in his mouth without even getting to open it. This was why he didn't bother dating. If only he could make himself fall out of love with Bella, he would be perfectly fine and far less jealous of his brother. Yes, that indeed would solve all his problems.
