Sometimes, I actually love things.

I'm re-reading Joss Whedon and John Cassaday's Astonishing X-men from start to finish. As much as I love Grant Morrison, as as much credit as I give to Stan Lee and even Chris Claremont, Whedon's Astonishing X-Men is without doubt the single greatest X-men run of all time ( Read more... )

Well, seeing that how Whedon's run single-handedly did character assassination on Charles Xavier,i will have to disagree. There is speculation that the whole killing-resurrecting-reconstructing Charles Xavier was due to Whedon's portrayal of him in AXM.

And it did kill Kitty Pryde dead. And don't even get me started on how he resurrected Colossus.

Suspension of disbelief,people.

It was a good run but not an awesome one.

And if i was one of the people who started to buy it when it first came out,i'd be pretty pissed about the time Whedon took to actually finish his run.

Charles Xavier was already character assassinated by Deadly Genesis, which if I recall was released before the Xavier issue of Astonishing. And while I'm not a fan of that direction either, it's maybe the only flaw in Astonishing.

He did not kill Kitty Pryde dead, he gave her a great story arc. As for Colossus, what exactly is wrong with how he was resurrected? This is the X-men universe. Suspension of disbelief? They regularly spend half their time in another galaxy run by an empire of bird-people.

And as someone who did buy it as it first came out, I was only pissed about the time it took because I so desperately wanted to keep reading.

Of course, opinions vary. Luckily, my opinion is the one that matters. Huzzah!

"I was only pissed about the time it took because I so desperately wanted to keep reading."

yeah, that is precisely what i was talking about.

"which if I recall was released before the Xavier issue of Astonishing."

I'm not sure if comics work that way.Deadly genesis was probably both the reason and the result of whedon's run. "Somebody else is shtting on the character, why not us too?",the script was probably known way before deadly genesis.Of couse,i'm talking about this due to Whedon's convenient disregard about continuity.

Meh,my opinion matters more than yours !

In my mind, desperately wanting to continue to read something means I more than just like it, it means I love it ( ... )

I have to admit, I did particularly like Whedon's run on X-Men, especially the interactions between Kitty and Emma. Pure gold, that.

The art was also better than I've seen many other artists do, which helps make the story go down easier.

Also, I liked the return of Colossus. Besides, the cover with Kitty held in his arms was freakin' hot. Just sayin'.

Amen to that, M McGreggor, the living legend. I always really disliked Cyclops before. He was so bland. Then Joss made him the biggest badass on the entire team. It was so good. Just so good.

And maybe we could trust Kitty to stay alive because, hey, he already did that!

(Note that I don't object to what happen to Kitty on storytelling grounds. Indeed, I'm even grateful for personal reasons, because now I don't feel the need to buy so many comics.)
