I am not digging the art in Ultimate Comics Spider-Man. Mind you, my deep man-crush on Brian Michael Bendis makes up for that and I still love that comic beyond all reason, but I'm really just not a fan of Spider-Man being drawn just a hair's breadth away from super-deformed.
I feel like I'm reading Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, and it's kind of creeping me out how all the characters now look like they're eleven years old, except for Spidey himself, who only looks eleven when he's Peter Parker. When he's in costume, he looks eight. It's just weird.
So I would like to take this opportunity to say: Anime? Fuck you for influencing a generation of artists to draw characters with giant eyes, deformed bodies, and poor facial features.
I miss Mark Bagley.
(But any Spider-Man with the word Ultimate on the cover is still the best comic book money can buy.)
PS: You forget how much the flu sucks until you get it.
