Recommend me some books and I shall do the same

Being rather ill lately has made me want to curl up with a good book (or audiobook, thanks to migraines), but the problem is I tend to have a hard time finding a book I can really get into. For the last two years I've asked all of you out there to recommend TV shows to me, and I've gotten into some great shows because of that - Avatar: The Last ( Read more... )

I'm going to recommend something outside classic F & SF, but you might like it.

Look into the books of Matt Ruff. While his books are very different from each other, they are also each a good read.

1) Fool on the Hill: His first book is a light college fantasy. Funny and airy. It's also probably the easiest to get into.
2) Sewer, Gas, Electric: This one's strange. Very strange. I can't really give a synopsis, but it's got Alligators in the sewers, a frozen Walt Disney and various conspiracies.
3) Set this House in Order: This one is his most intense, and one you might find fascinating based on what you write. It's the story of a multiple personality. And I really don't want to give away more.
4) Bad Monkeys: A showcase for an unreliable narrator. and conspiracies again.

I don't know which of these books are out in paperback, I always buy them as soon as they come out. I got hooked with "Fool on the Hill" and he hasn't let me down yet. Even though the books are very different from each other, all of them are brilliantly written.

I definitely recommend "Set this House in Order", which I think is available as paperback. The others might be a case for checking the local library.

Enjoy. (Hopefully)

I'll try to keep an eye out, and probably will check out at least one of them, thanks.
