IZ IN EN ZED

In a motel in Rotorua with INTERNET <3 <3 <3. And about Bloody time too <3

Just spent two days with Grandad (on Dad's side), his two shy cats Tribble and Isis and his starling Tinkerbell, who he rescued from one of the cats. She can't fly because of a deformed wing, but somehow she picked up talking, and let me tell you that there is NOTHING creepier than stumbling half-asleep through a dim room towards breakfast and having a horse little voice whisper "who's a gorgeous girl?" from the corner of the room >_<
Anyway, we watched some of him and dad's old stop-motion shadow puppet movies. His projector had stuffed up so we could only watch the ones on Video, but they were as always totally awesome and almost certainly where I got my horrific ending tendencies from. I'm still haunted by the the final image of one I saw when I was six-ish which ended with a Man hiding in a scarecrow and getting IMPALED WITH PITCHFORKS >_<
Oh, and he lives in Hamilton, so we went to see the Riff-Raff statue. It's a statue of Riff-Raff. It is also awesome. http://www.riffraffstatue.org

This is the "adventure" segment of the holiday, so we went Black Water Rafting on the first day, which involved wading through pitch-black caves dragging large rubber rings so we could occasionally bob helplessly along. Today we went on the Luge(hurtling around corners at high speeds on little carts powered by sheer will) and the Skyswing (gravity hates me). More things and/or detail shall be posted later, if MMaS can remember/be bothered.

Also! Convinced mother to shell out $30 for a Firefly box set, which my Brother and one of my cousins then Marathoned in Akaroa (Bad Weather = No Dolphin Swimming) and now love. And there are an abundance of comic shops over here, so I picked me up some pretties, namely Joss Weadon's Runaways which is lovely, and Gerard Way's Umbrella Academy, which is fantastically awesome beyond all rhyme and reason and you should read it right damn now. Seriously. Screaming MRC Fangirl or not, drop the computer, run to the bookstore, beg/borrow/buy a copy and read it on the way home. Go. Right now.

Back? Read it? Loved it? Have a slight inexplicable crush on Zombie Robot Gustaf Eiffel?

...no?

Fuck.

new zealand, these strange creatures i call my family, comic books bring love and joy
