Breakfast. HARRY POTTER

dogdaysofsummer July 3 Prompt.
PG

“Oh God,” says Remus. His lips clamp shut and he edges away from the table. “How can you…this early?”

Sirius frowns. “It’s breakfast, Moony.”

“No,” says Remus, “it’s cruel and unusual punishment; that much food this early.”

“I want to point out,” says Sirius, “that if you’d listened to me last night you would not have this problem.” He slices his toast into neat triangles and layers on baked beans.

Remus squints at him. Even at 9:30 A.M., it is unreasonably bright. And hot. His pyjamas are starting to stick. “When did you become the reasonable one? And when did you learn table manners? And why don’t we have any black coffee?”

“We do, actually,” says Sirius. He pushes a mug across the table to Remus and takes a sip from his own. Remus is tugging at the neck of his shirt. “You could take your shirt off,” Sirius suggests.

Remus’s head flies up and his eyes become quite wide. Sirius flushes. “I mean - it’s - “ they both take refuge in their mugs.

“It’s nothing I haven’t seen before,” says Sirius eventually. And then, “It’s summer.”

Remus tilts his head and when he pulls his shirt off it’s less awkward than it might be.
