Title: Where We're Going
Rating: PG
Prompt: Parents
“What were your parents like?” Louis asked.
“I know this game,” Rick said.
Louis lifted an eyebrow. He was better at that than Rick. Much better. Possibly because he was French, but probably because he was Louis. Neither of them said anything; Louis’ attempted patience and failed.
“Ricky,” he prompted. “Mr. and Mrs. Blaine?”
Rick set his teeth and kept quiet.
Louis didn’t say anything after that.
“I’ve got some cigarettes left,” Rick said finally.
“So have I,” said Louis.
“Yeah,” said Rick, “but -- ”
Cigarettes would be scarce for the next two weeks. Louis took one of Rick’s.
Title: Grey, Unpleasant Land

Prompt: Green
Whenever news comes, they ask, “Have the Germans gotten to England yet?”
There was a three-week period when they thought Hitler had captured the British royal family and that the Russians and the Americans are all they have left. That was wrong, though. London is being bombed almost continually, but the Germans have not landed, the Nazis have not won.
It irked Louis to have to depend on the British for support. Rick didn’t really care either way, and that irked Louis to. He hated to ask after the fate of London.
“I don’t understand why you’re so blasé about it,” he complained once to Rick. “You forcibly removed the British.”
“Surely you’re not accusing me of patriotism,” said Rick.
“ ‘Green and pleasant land,’” Louis said, like it was Rick’s fault.
