A brush of familiar

Like I can't quite place how we know each other
The feeling of your back in my palms when we hug doesn't fill my hands as I feel it should
Your smell, the sound of your breathing
How was I intertwined with you for 10 years but none of this feels like home
There's a small version of me somewhere in the back of my head calling out, hey, we know this guy, but it is not the current version of me
The current version just clams up, tenses up, has her walls up, the second it senses you
How does the brain take something that was so familiar and make it a stranger
