Memory scabs

Apr 23, 2013 09:18

People start to form their own version of what happened almost as soon as it has finished happening. This recollection is often a mixture of truth and not-quite-truths, because certain ugly realities are hard to cope with all at once. Distance from an event sometimes allows one to go back towards it with an eye for truth, but just as often the initial drift just becomes wider and wider the further away one gets from anything that might disagree with them.

I'm a person just like everyone else; I know my memory must be faulty on some things as well. This is why I know that I should be writing more often here, writing to give the me of the future something to puzzle over when trying to understand what my memories are telling me. Even if it's just one wrong version fighting with another, maybe the confusion will lead to insight.
