Another week going...

Okay, so here was my plan for today, go into Carbondale over to SIU and apply for some Civil Service positions I saw advertised on the website.  I REALLY want one of these jobs as they pay REALLY well (way better than what I'm making) and two of them seem like I could actually learn stuff from.  Now, as part of the requirement, I had to my transcript from SIU.

I go over to campus (wearing my best pair of pants, long-sleeved white shirt, and a tie), and I go to get my transcript first time.  Well, what i didn't know is that it takes them a DAY to prepare the transcript.  I'm mean, I thought, I go over, request the transcript, they bring up the file, hit "Print", sign it (or whatever) and boom, I'm out of there.  But NO.

Don't ask me WHY it would take them an entire day to get a simple transcript, it just does.

When I learn this, I'm trying to figure out what to do next.  You see, the problem is one of the jobs was an application deadline of THIS Wednesday.  In addition, I've got an appointment tomorrow at 2pm for somewhere else (in addition to having to work.)  So, I think, "Oh, I think I can get off work, zoom over to Carbondale, get my transcript, go to the job place, turn in my stuff and be back here by two..."

I said, "Okay, have this ready for me to pick up tomorrow..." (You can arrange to pick up a transcript or have them mail it somewhere.)

The girl goes, "Okay, it'll be ready after 2 pm tomorrow."

I'm like, "AHHH fuck!"

I starting thinking, Did I come all this way for NOTHING?? AHHH!

I said, "Okay," and left.

Went over to the Human Resources building (after getting lost because of crappy directions given to me by some guy in the Transcript Office), and I filled out some forms.  Of course, they couldn't complete the process without my transcript, so, I told them I'd bring it by Wednesday (the deadline is at noon.)

In addition, turns out one of the jobs I was interested in requires 12 months experience in a "computer related" job.  And not just something typing things in, has to be related to databases or something similar.  Again, it's the old job hunters quandary: you need experience to get a job, but how do you get said experience when NO ONE will freaking HIRE you?

Well, luckily there's two other positions I might qualify for...

After all that tooling around and stuff it was about 1:30, and I was hungry, so I stopped by Fazoli's to get something to eat.  I tell you, I go to the one in C'dale so often (usually once a week) they pretty much know me by site.

In other news, this morning mom did a reversal of her dark attitude (see last post) by being strangely upbeat and polite as she showed me various objects she was wanting to give me for when I move out, and asking if I wanted certain things.  Some of the things were items from my step-grandfather, who no longer needs them being in a nursing home and all.

Let's see.. what else?  Green Friday is coming.  That's the day after Thanksgiving where people line up at like three in the morning to get great bargains and stuff.  This year, I'll only be working a eight hour shift this time (as opposed to the TEN hour shift I worked last year.)  Not sure what I'll be doing.. well, maintenance of course, but then after that, I don't know if they'll mainly have me in the back (probably) or outside.  Last year I was outside for most of the shift and I didn't care for much.  Ostensibly  I was out there to great customers and gather up carts, but for about the first two hours or so, there were NO carts to gather.  The moment someone would relinquish a cart inside the store, another person would quickly grab it up!

Well, I'm going to do some net exploring...

job hunting, green friday, work, fazoli's, job, food, college, moving out
