Got an interview

Sep 26, 2007 16:28

Went in for an interview today, it's for a graphic/layout artist with a local company, they make newspapers, including the one that gets printed everyday for this town.  Basically, from what I understand it, the job would entail updating the advertisements for the trade paper, proofreading, and stuff like that.  Sounds really interesting, it'd start out part and then maybe going into full time later.  I think maybe if I could get this job if might get me some experience int he graphic design field and maybe help move me up the ladder to a bigger newspaper.

But, I'm getting ahead of myself....

I think the interview went okay, dunno how many people I'm competing against, though.  They said they'd probably pick someone by this weekend.  Starting pay would be $8.50, which a buck more than the (new) Illinois minimum wage (and a buck more than what i currently make.)  Being that the shifts would be in the evening, I could probably work this job and keep my other one.

REALLY hope I can get this job.  Think it would be a good opportunity for me (and, of course, I could use the extra money.)

In other news...

Man, I feel DRAINED right now.  Just all draggy and "Blah."  Not sure why, I slept in a bit, and went to bed at a decent hour.  I don't know, one theory of sleep is that when you miss a few hours one night you occur a "debt" and you body won't "get right" until you pay it off.  I dunno know if that's true or not.. seems to me like a decent eight or nine hours of rest would "reset" you in most situation, unless you just have REALLY missed a LOT of sleep.

After the interview I stopped by the library to return some books. I love the interlibrary loan system they have there, gives me access to all sorts of books the library in town (which is a bit on the small side) doesn't have.  Today though, there were no books in for me, so I browsed around looking at the shelves for something interesting.  Thought about maybe trying to pick up something random, and just seeing what kind of knowledge I could get, but none of the "random" picks held my interest.

Finally, I found one section with several books that interested me, so I snagged them up.  I got a true crime book by Ann Rule, a book called The Media Manipulators, and Bernard Goldberg's 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America.  I'd read Goldberg's previous books and enjoyed though, so I thought I'd pick up this one.  Goldberg was a former CBS journalist who pretty much got blackballed by his fellow reporters after we wrote an article daring to point how bias the media has become.  If anyone's interested in why I don't trust journalist or the media in general, Goldberg's book Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News is a good place for a partial answer.

I remember seeing one book there called, something like, All Creatures Great and Small or some such.  It was a series of true stories from a country animal doctor and the various animals he's treated over the years.  Looked like it might have been interesting, I just didn't take it with me.  Maybe next time.

So, that was pretty much my day... oh, watched the film The Number 23 with Jim Carrey.  Ahhh, it was okay, I guess.  Kind of guessed at the ending long before it happened.  I have to agree with a lot of reviews that said the film builds up to a fizzle rather than a bang.

Oh, got a DVD from Netflix, the first season of the series Heroes.  Heard a LOT of people tell me it's a pretty good show, but I just never really had a chance to watch it.  I'll try the first four eps and see how it goes (that's exactly how I got sucked in the phenomenon knows as Lost.

Well, think I've chatted enough for a bit.
