Okay, so this Friday I got a rather nice surprise. I went upstairs to watcha movie with my mom and stepdad and they had a large rectangle package sitting in the seat with a card for me. I'm like, "Whoa, what's this?" Turns out it's a graduation present. I open it up and it's a tripod. And I'm thinking, "Wait... can't be... are they going to?"
Mom's like, "Well, bet you can't use that tripod with your camera, can you?" Then she pulls out a second package, a brand new DIGITAL CAMERA. We're talking an eight-megapixel with kickass zoom and all sorts of neat photo modes (they've got modes for taking pictures at night, taking them in the snow, dusk, mode suited for moving objects, like kids and pets, a foilage mode for trees, a close up mode for small objects up class, even an UNDERWATER mode for taking pictures underwater. Course, the waterproof case you need for that come separately.)
So, I'm just STUNNED. I had no idea they were going to do this. I mean, months earlier mom asked me if I was interested in getting a class ring for graduation, and I'm like, "Well, not really..." Never been a jewelry person, really. Don't wear rings, and it's been nearly a decade since I've even put on a necklace. So, they dropped it, and I heard nothing since them. So, this really blew me out of the water.
I didn't just get a kickass camera (oh, did I mention it also shoots video?) and tripod but they also bought a camera "bundle" with it, including a camera case. In addition, they got me a 1 Gigabyte memory card (the camera comes from a paltry 16 megabyte card), an energizer 4 battery recharger.
All, I could say it wow.
I was eager to test this baby, so I went over to the park for a bit. At our park they have a large body of water with ducks and geese floating around during the warmer months. While, I was there taking some shoots when a family came over and began feeding bread crumbs to the animals, so they got REAL close. What's really cool about this camera (among other things) is that it's WAY faster than my old camera. With my old camera it'd be like, "Hold the button, give it a second to focus, flash, wait several seconds for the pictures to upload, ready to take another pic." Here the load time is greatly reduced, letting me take more pictures faster.
So, still a lot of pictures I need to play around with... I can mess with the shutter speed, and other things, but dunno yet where or even why I'd want to do that. Only downside so far is that the video doesn't seem to play right on some of my main video players on the computer (Windows Media for instance.) I'm not sure why, have to dome some experimenting to figure it I think.
Oh, another neat thing, when I take a picture, it actually makes a camera-like clicking sound, so that's pretty cool as well... :)
Okay, in other news, more good news, I might have an internship worked out. You see, back in my web desing class, me and two other people decided to do a webpage for a local chapter of Habitat for Humanity (the woman in our group works a lot with them, she suggested the idea and we agreeed it'd be a good one to do.) Anyway, I spoke with her and turns out the local HFH could really use someone to put the website we designed up on a server, help update it a bit, and do some other things.
So, I gotta talk it over with the teacher in charage of the internships, and then I need to speak to the fellow on the other end, but hopefully it'll work out. Think this will be a good experience for me, and I'll be helping people too.
Well, I'm getting tired, gotta go to bed.
