(Wrote this last night, starting at around 2 am)
Alright, I'm at work, in the middle of doing the audit. Every shift I have to do the night audit where I go through a series of steps on the computer, print out several reports, double check a couple of figures, fill out the daily audit sheet by entering in various information from said reports, then I go and fill out (by hand) some forms in the back, put all the various papers in order, double check the figures and then put them in a manila envelope with the date written in black Sharpie. Right now, I'm waiting for the "batch" to close. You see, each day we submit a bunch of information online to headquarters (or where ever) and it always takes a few minutes to process the batches. Usually it's not that long, but sometimes it can stretch out.
After the night audit is done, I go around the hotel and slide check out receipts under the door of each guest. This is interesting because I've never done that at any of the other hotels I've worked at. Everywhere else the person would get a checkout slip printed for them when they actually check out. This is actually my LEAST favorite part of the job (next dealing with angry customers, which, luckily I don't get too many of.) On any given night there's at least twenty people checking (unless it's a big weekend and most people are staying two days), but usually there's more. So that means twenty plus times of having to bend over, shove the paper under the door, repeat. Now, a couple of times I've fine, but after a dozen or so, the whole bending over thing gets old REAL fast.
Now, just in case you think this is just me being lazy, keep in mind I'm six foot six (give or take), weigh a lot, and my pants aren't flexible enough for doing the whole "bend at the knees" thing time and time again. In fact, there's good chance too much stretching and I can kiss the crotch goodbye (yes, I've had it happen more than a couple of times, once while working at a factory. Needless to say it was a pretty big tear and I had a nice breeze flowing through that area. Thankfully, they were nice enough to let me go home early.) So, by the end of doing all that bending and shoving, my back's usually jabbing at me, and I need to sit down for awhile.
Sidenote: Okay, been waiting on these damn batches to process for about ten plus minutes now. Decided to hit the "stop" button on the browser and refresh. Ahh, good, it's moving again.
Back to the whole checkout slip thing, what REALLY sucks is Saturdays. Usually on the Saturdays we have a full house, and then everyone and their brother is checking out Sunday morning. I've had a few where I've had to deliver FIFTY plus check out slips. (Back hurts just thinking about it.)
