"Giant Head Fight" for the win!fantasyenablerAugust 23 2007, 01:58:03 UTC
OMG...I loved this week's issue of First Class. I knew when I opened it and the first page was "Decrees from Bobbyland" that I was going to be snickering for the rest of the evening and I was right. It was so great. It might actually be my favorite issue so far.
I also liked X-Men, but I have to admit that I'm wishing the "Endangered Species" back-up wasn't taking up so much of the book right now because I'm ready to see where this storyline is going.
I mean...Marauders? Check! Sinister? Check! Exodus? Check! Killing people with knowledge of the future? Check!
Wondering WHY...?
Check!
I don't have a clue, and I'm not sure if that's because Carey's going to surprise the hell out of me and other old school fans, or he's done a really bad job laying down hints. Personally speaking, I'm ready to find out, and if he takes more than another issue to tell me, I think I'm going to be frustrated.
Other than that though, it was a good, solid issue as always. Carey uses his characters well and has intriguing plots. (I obviously liked the boys' shaking down Sunfire.) My only complaint seems to be one of pacing, something I've never had a problem with before, and again, I think that stupid back-up has something to do with it.
Stupid back-up.
*Glares at Beast. Hurry up and be done, would you? The other X-Men need those pages back.*

'X-Men First Class' is fantastic. It's the most joyful comic-book I've ever seen. And, yes, when I saw 'The Decrees' on the first page, it was already clear it was gonna be one of these issues when I just can't stop grinning like an idiot.
Weeell, to be truthful, Beast doen't actually take any pages from any comic he piggibacks on lately. And extra pages are good pages. Which is why I'm mostly ok with it, even though I'm still on the fence whether I like this whole 'Endangered Species' business or not. Beast has been whining about his precious ethics for about five parts (yes, I know, the ethical issue is very important and what not, but that's just too long) and only now it looks like he's ready to actually do something. I've always liked Beast very much and I do understand that, with 17 parts, there have too be pacing problems, but it's a bit tiring. The art is very pretty at least.
As for 'X-Men', the Marvel Solicitations Previews promise that next month 'the Marauders' true goals emerge' and, I agree, it really is high time for that because if Carey keeps the goose chase any longer it's gonna turn ridiculous. Let's hope he knows that too ;) I didn't have much trouble with the pacing, myself, possibly because I was too busy building Carey a mini shrine in my mind. I might be a bit biased at this point ;)

I've always adored Beast, even after what Morrison did to him, but I so totally agree with this statement. The angst portion of this tale is dragging and dragging badly. Time to move on to some revelation and allow us poor readers a chance let out the long breath we've been holding.
next month 'the Marauders' true goals emerge'
Yay!

Oh, Carey is definitely a good writer, and lord knows he looks like a god when compared to his predecessors. I'm certainly not complaining about having him on this title. In fact, in case he's somehow actually godlike and listening, he should know that I don't want him to go anywhere, for a long, long time.

You know, it might be possible that I need some more caffeine this morning. I'm in the middle of grading papers and I think I might be developing a case of ink poisoning. Because I already had a compulsive hatred of comma splices. *shudders*

I do know that I'm glorifying Carey a bit too much at the moment. But Carey and I are at the infatuation stage of our relationship right now, you know, when everything in the world seems soft and kinda hazy and you feel all squishy inside and have this absurd urges to sing in public places. It will pass. Just bear with me ;)
Hmmm, I've always thought that grading papers process must hold terrible temptations. If I were in such a position, when in the right mood, I would just take a red pen and cross and slash and circle like a mad woman until everything is so gloriously red red red becasue I am right and other people are stupid. Which is why, when choosing my future carreer, after a lot of consideration, I decided to keep away from the education sector, because it might be fun at the short distance but, in the end, I'd probably wind up unemployed. Yeah, comma splices. Evil. Not that I'm entirely guilt-free here since the complete understanding of English punctuation still eludes me. We, Poles, do things a bit differently in that area. But I'll learn, I promise. Ignore my ramblings and just get yourself a nice cup of coffee.
