I just acquired the 'Era New Horizons' Film Festival ticket card. That I bought it more than four months before the festival actually starts shows just how freaking steamed up I am about the whole thing ( Read more... )

Wow, you've been doing some heavy viewing.

It's maybe two years since I saw Apocalypse Now, and what I mainly remember about it was that it was long.
I've never been big on war movies so I guess I failed to see the real greatness of the film. Not that I didn't get that it was great, it just didn't affect me quite like that.
Did that make any sense??

Yeah, 'Apocalypse Now' was quite something to get through. I'm of firm opinion movies should be no longer that two hours. Making them three-plus hours long should be forbidden by law. I'm not saying here 'Apocalypse Now: Redux' wasn't a great movie, but I'm pretty sure the shorter version was just as great as well, only, you know more intensely so, since it was all crammed up into tigher timeframe.

I generally enjoy war movies. Especially the grittier ones. But only if they aren't whitewashing any side (meaning, their own side) of the conflict too much - for me there is no good or bad side in any war, there are only bad sides.

And you make perfect sense. There are movies that you see very well are great, even masterpieces, they just don't work so well on you. It's like you are looking from the outside, an impartial observer, just looking but not getting involved.

17. Where would you want to retire?
Somewhere in the Scandinavia region would be great.
Really, why?

I was watching it late at night too, by the end I was kind of doing other things as I was watching. I can not be expected to give the screen my full attention during that film.

There have been war-movies I've liked, but they're more about the people involved than the big battles. I did watch Band of Brothers with my dad, thought that was good.

Good, it think it was late when I commented... and I might have been running a fever, so glad you could make sense of it. :)
And yes, that's what I meant. A movie can be great, and I can apprechiate that, but I don't have to love the film.

I spent magical two weeks in Stockholm two years ago (plus one day in Uppsala). I've never been to Norway or Finland, but I'm pretty sure I would love them too. They are all what I call 'highly civilized countries'. I like the general attitude of people there, I like that practically everyone speaks English, I like that everyone seems to care about enviromnent, that most of things are kept in admirable order. I liek that it's so damn pretty there ( ... )

Ah, well that explains it. :)
I think the highest temperature I've experienced here was 32C, but if you go further north it's colder. If you ever get the chance to see Norway you should, it is very picturesque in some places.
Finland is great too. I've only been in Helsinki for a day, but I liked it very much.
I like heat to some degree, but once it hits a certain point I'm not too happy either, especially if it's humid as well. The way it was in Gdynia this summer was good. Though I did eat a lot of ice-cream. ;)

No more than 32C? You have heaven up there, girl. Appreciate it properly.
Well, I think 32C is way more than human-friendly but, on the other hand, in Poland the temperature can get even as high as 39C on some occasions. Very rare occasions, true, but still. When the temparature starts to creep above 35C you don't care about anything else, you just want to crawl into some hole and die.

Yes, ice-cream definitely helps. Especially that I would consider ice-cream you can get on the Polish coast one of the best I've ever tasted.

Lol, ah well I tend to enjoy it as long as it stays in the 20s. Higher end, but still.
Oh, now I want summer. Or at least real spring.

Oh, Polish ice cream wins. I could move to Gdynia just for the ice-cream. *dreams*

The 20s is the perfect temperature. I wish it could be like that all year long.
Well, we kinda have the real spring already. Not to brag or anything ;)
Springs in Poland are generally fun. I have many issues against summers, but springs are ok.

It finally looks like spring is coming here as well. Would love some warmer days now. It's cold out here.

I guess Polish spring is like Norwegian summer... from my limited experience.

I so deserve to live there one day.
