'If there isn't a movie about it, it's not worth knowing, is it?'

So I was supposed to step up on the movie watching. Well, imagine that, I actually did.

Seriously, how else could God sound like? The movie just confirmed it.

I've always suspected, though.

I don't really think Doctor Who and Torchwood are comparable at all. They're set in the same fictional universe, and there are some cross-references, but that's where the similarities end. Doctor Who has its dark moments, but most of the time, it's simply fun. I just watched the 2006 Christmas Special and it was silly and geeky and made me laugh. Torchwood is both darker and more mainstream, in terms of being a more typical sci-fi drama show, I guess.

Five consecutive episodes that I loved to pieces.

Same here (ok, with the exception of 'Irresponsible'). The last couple of episodes were so much fun to watch. I'm just afraid that it can't and won't go on like this....

I agree, 'Doctor Who' and 'Torchwood' are different. They feel different. Still, they belong to the same universe. And, even if you consider them as just belonging to the same sci-fi genre, or even, the most generally, as two tv shows, 'Doctor Who' comes first every time. It's just better written. Or so I think. I'm pretty sure we are on the same page here, though.

Oh, it looks like there's another DW spin-off on the way. 'The Sarah Jane Adventures'. Directed more towards children this time. Really, the DW universe just thrives.

I'm just afraid that it can't and won't go on like this...
Sadly, you're just right. It's statistically impossible to keep on much longer. But, hey, a few months ago I would have said that even these five excellent episodes, one right after the other, had practically no chance to happen. So, SGA might show us a few surprises yet. At least, let's hope so.

I don't think the writing of Torchwood is all that bad, in general. It's just not on a consistent standard. I thoght the first couple of episodes were pretty amazing, then it sucked really badly for a few eps, and now it's starting to get better again. The penultimate episode of the first season was great. And Doctor Who also had some truly ghastly writing. "Love and Monsters" comes to mind *shudders*, and the recent Christmas special wasn't all that great either.

Not sure whether I'll be watching The Sarah Jane Adventures, yet. I have too many shows I need to catch up with.

Sadly, you're just right. It's statistically impossible to keep on much longer.
Sorry, I think I didn't put that quite in the way I meant it. You're right - it is statistically highly improbably that they keep up the high standard, but that's not what I meant to say. I was rather thinking along the lines of how the coming episodes, sadly, won't go on as bright and cheerful and decidedly un-angsty as the last few.

'Torchwood' had some quite good episodes, true. Heard many good things about number 12, I'm definitely looking forward to it. Still, I can't think of any 'Torchwood' episode that I flat-out loved. Adored, was unreservedly delighted with. Like I did with, say, 'Rose' or 'The Doctor Dances'. With 'Torchwood' there are ok, fun episodes and there are well, the bad ones. With 'Doctor Who' there are the awesome ones and well, the quite ok ones. And even the quite ok ones were actually great too, because they had Christopher Eccleston in them and I'm pretty much in love with him. All this ranting will perhaps make more sense to you if you realise that I'm on a DW high. And that's very very high since I haven't touched season 2 yet (I'm procrastinating, I don't think I'm quite ready for the non-Eccleston Doctor) so all the weaker episodes you mention are far ahead and it's all dandy so far ( ... )

I love 'Dogma'. It's weird though, I wasn't that impressed the first time I saw it, now I just adore it. I want to get my grubby little hands on the DVD vrs with an hour's worth of cut scenes.

The Big Lebowski never quite won me over. It goes on the shelf of weird movies that I'll never be quite able to decide what I think of.

An HOUR of deleted scenes? That's just flat-out cool.

I think that with the quirky ones it usually goes the hit-or-miss way. They click for you or they don't. For example, there are lots of people ravinog about 'Napoleon Dynamite' and I'm completely blah about it. I just don't see the attraction at all.

Napoleon Dynamite, yeah, everybody's crazy about that one. I did enjoy it, but I'm not crazy about it. It is on the wierd shelf.

NP gave me this mightily wierd impression as if I actually could see why others would go crazy about it, but it didn't work for me. Like I was watching it from the outside, with everyone else inside and having fun. Bizarre, I tell you.
Oh, well, perhaps it was all that hype that just skewed my view.
