This is the day
brokenmnemonic was born, the day the world became one good man richer :)
Happy Birthday my dear friend! I wish you to have a wonderful day! Remember how much you are loved and appreciated and to quote a famous song's lyrics - don't worry, be happy! :)
As a matter of fact, I didn't send you anything by mail - I wanted to give you this video as a

It's an amazing vid--you should be so proud! I'm going to have to watch it a lot more to take it all in. It soars so powerfully--like the pilots themselves.
the problem was I simply didn't have enough knowledge of vidding techniques to tell the story the way I wanted to, emphasise some points, so that it would get argumentative and passionate enough, in other words - make the work worthy to my own eyes.
Awww, I know that feeling so well. I am SO glad that you finally tackled this (and greatful to brokenmnemonic for creating the final impetus for you to do so!)
the vid is about 6 minutes length, which is also way too much by any standards.
Hee! Congratulations! I am glad to have company in the club of over-six-minutes vidders. (I haven't made one in BSG but I have made one for another fandom.) Be proud! I did not feel the six minutes at all.
And moreover, it’s the first video I’ve ever created that has made me sob and cry in pain uncontrollably like some shot animal during editing.
Aww, *hugs* Your vid was too uplifting for me to cry, though I have cried through your Lee one several times. But I can imagine that living with the story as intimately as you would have to to craft this could definitely result in some tears.
How marvellous that you managed to use that deleted scene footage at the end there! Aurora!!!

Thank you! :) I've uploaded the vid to Sendspace for you and added the link. Please let me know if you have any problems downloading it - I wouldn't want you to watch it in less than good quality.

People seem to really enjoy watching it, so I am proud :) Proud of the way I approached some of the key moments in storytelling, of the gyrate narrative that goes deeper in and then in the reverse sequence to make a point; and also of the technical stuff, for instance - the music subsiding a bit in the beginning (the second when Lee's Viper goes into the tunnel) and then going up again with Viper's motion when it flies free (I really like it because it's the first time I experimented with audio clip like this and I think it adds the feeling of presence). But don't mind me, I could go on about this video forever because almost every second of it was thought-out and heartfelt. :)

Yeah, it's a huge relief to complete a vid of such personal magnitude that's been eating my brain all this time :)
The funny thing is that Ed probably doesn't realise yet that he's been a great help for me in making something for him.
I did not feel the six minutes at all.
And that's a good sign. I'm very glad.

Yeah it was meant to feel uplifting in general (the song's name speaks for itself :) ), there's this huge shining beacon and mutual support and love between Pilots... and hope, right? But for me there was also a whole bucket of angst I had to work through, and I lost it during the editing of the second verse and what follows, really. It's actually out of the ordinary for me, I never felt the gut wrenching weight of past decisions, frakked up motivations and the pain of the characters so potent that I would collapse while editing. I think I can deal with Lee and Kara separately, but I don't know... somehow at that very moment after about 5 hours spent vidding they were too much.

And again we should thank "Santa Claus" for the fact that I could use that footage. :)
Aurora!!!
*nods*
How cool is it that Aurora is like a L/K personal symbol now? :)

I love the way in the opening the music dims when Lee's viper enters the tunnel. That puts us in the characters' persepctive so quickly. And the close-ups of Kara's eyes do much to emphasis how strongly connected these two are.
This vid breaks my heart so early with its 'comes out awry' line. I've seen so many Kara fans dismiss that moment in the greater scheme of their romance, but I always found it really heartbreaking.
the first chorus of 'you lift my spirit' is so uplifting because it comes as such a surprise after the troubled lyrics before it. But that is so true to the ship--the amazing uplifting moments after the darkness.
The vid is so sweeping it kind of just carries me off after that...
one of my other favourite moments though is the surprise kiss on the drum beat around 4.30. Lovely effects there that really drive home the signficance of that moment.
In the final moments, I love your use of the two planes flying together, then Kara and Lee running side by side to the planes.
The final sequence to 'Olympic Carrier' breaks my heart. But you gave Kara someone to stroke her hair when she was all alone aboard Prometheus! *sniffles*

Anything for you, dear :) I'm VERY glad you enjoyed the shiny version, that's the way the picture quality should be, it would've been even better had I been more into encoding specifics and nuances - but that's just the most boring part in vidmaking process for me. I always have to sort of talk myself into approaching codec settings installations after finishing my project out of sheer necessity. If I could, I'd skip the exporting and encoding parts altogether :)

You know this period of time in vidmaking when you haven’t even started working with footage material in your software, you’re just listening to the song and trying to absorb it all, see some shots as clearly as possible in order to be able to use them as your milestones further, right? Well, the clearest vision I had when I was listening to Lift yet not vidding - was the first verse’s vision. I saw the shots I was going to overlay with “Times when I just Can’t - bring myself…” so brightly… as well as the moment you’re talking about! So I have to tell you it’s one of my favorite, breaks my heart about three times with its ‘Can’t’, ‘Afraid’ and ‘Awry’ words…
As for the actual scene on the Astral Queen with ‘I’m your friend, I love you’/ ‘Lee Adama Loves ME?!’ pearl, it’s a magnificently subtle moment in BSG, I love it to bits, always wanted to make some sort of Pilots thoughts’ subtitles for it because too many things are going on in their heads then that they keep to themselves; the only windows to their souls are their eyes, body language and certain accidental words that are quickly being masked under their usual bantering.
This video also differs from any other vid I made before in terms of storytelling as I tried to intertwine Lee’s POV with Kara’s POV very tightly here, make them flow in one stream so that the viewer could watch from both angles depending on personal preferences and interest. I’ve never done anything like it before.
one of my other favourite moments though is the surprise kiss on the drum beat around 4.30.
Thanks, Home pt.1 is one of the shippiest episodes in BSG, full of significant moments and too hard not to vid :)

It slays me when he smoothes down her hair… If I saw Kara stroking Lee’s hair or his cheekbones it would be the last straw and I think I’d dissolve into tears…
Anyway, Pilots, keep touching please :)

Demetrius you mean) I know, Black Market is unforgettable :)
Thank you very much for your lovely feedback Bop! :)
