Dumdeedoo. How I bought HP, since I'm not going to review the book

Jul 22, 2007 16:52

I've been sick -stomachache all over, for days on end- and I've used that as a excuse for being completely neglecting my intended daily posting. Heh. As if I needed one.

However, HP and all, it's high time I posted something, isn't it? Being that I begun around here due to HP and all...

I'm not spoiling anything. I simply, plainly, didn't like the book at all. The little parts that made it up to what I was expecting do not pay off for the parts that are exactly what I was dreading or, even worse, those that were unexpected. Altogether, not an surprising book, and the quality, the usual. I haven't really enjoyed any book other than the third. PoA is kinda love, though.

Even though I knew I was not going to like the book (spoiled by the carpeted edition, that is quite cool an effort, by the way), we did go to buy it on Friday night. We had supper in an Asian restaurant (remember my stomachache? I've been on soup and mashed veggies for two weeks. Dining out was the whole point of going to buy the book, for me!) and then walked up Balmes Str. till the Diagonal Ave. for the only book store we had found claiming to be open on Friday night for a HP party. When we got there (11.30pm), we found a Council Order stuck to the glass -they had not got the permission to open out of general hours. So, there wouldn't be any party at all. Off to a 24-hours, for us.

Not to far from there, after a 20 minutes walk, we got to a Vip's store, that was open and had the book. Only to find out that the book was not being sold till midnight... but London's midnight! 1am, here in Barcelona! We were kind of puzzled, since it didn't make much sense. We saw the book in the shelves, though, and the inner squeal, if there was any, was much smaller than it would have been three years ago. But, heh, I guess both llad and I have grown up out of HP. I find very comfortable, having outgrown the fandom I held for those few years, not a bit of sadness or remorse at all, so I guess all is fine. And, since llad was working in the morning, the poor thing, and the subway was being closed in a couple of hours, after all, we simply left, at 12.10, not wanting to wait till 1am to get the book. It was all very little exciting, we didn't see any fans, any Gryffindor scarves, or anything. Perhaps it was just us, but it was a little decaffeinated. So, off to home we went. (And, since dining out was the whole point, I did not feel disappointed at all. Yay me!)

I finally bought the book for llad on Saturday, after noon, and buying it was also very unexciting. I got a fancy paperbag, orange with red laces, as everyone else, I guess, but that's it. And llad must be reading the book as I write this. Me? I'm reading Stranger in a Strange Land, and very glad to be doing so. I'm a bad fan, having read all the spoilers and the leaked version but, heh, I guess I'm not much of a fan anymore -not HP, at least. And I read bits off llad's book as I was bringing it to her. I'm too used now to reading off my PDA to really mind, indeed.

So, a bad fan? Not quite. But I'm rather done with HP -have been for a couple of years. A couple of very hot, Texan boys float my boat, these days. And, those? Those I'm squealing and drowling all over. And reading and writing fanfics of them as crazy.
