From Labs to Inspection

Hey everybody! Well, Thursday was my long day, the two labs and a couple other classes but it went well. I got suckered into a cleaning party after class in order to get ready for the big inspection we had today, so I didn't get to make it down to the waterfront for long. Friday went well, too. English - rocked some check pluses; Calc - got some extra credit for the test, and this guy got nailed with piece of chalk for sleeping; Physics - didn't fall asleep; and Firefighting - Jablonski is awesome dude. After that we went back and cleaned as continuously as we could until 1 AM Saturday. My interruptions included the Pizza Party hosted by the Parents Association for MD, VA and NC; and then after listening to our in-house comedian, Nelson, we all went to see Moody McCarthy - a comedian from NY who's been on a lot of TV shows and opened for some really big names. His act was really good, too. After that, we went back to cleaning. For a big inspection like the one we had today, everything gets shined, the decks get buffed, and there can't be a spot of dust ANYWHERE. We also have to be uniform, meaning everyone in the company has to have their socks folded the same way, in the same places in the same drawers, etc. For the Command Inspection that's coming up in a couple of weeks, we typically don't sleep in our beds because we actually iron creases into the sheets...and I thought I was obsessive compulsive before I came here. Overall, we did really well. The Waterfront Exec. Officer inspected us and found a little bit of dust and a couple other small things. No one in our company failed. After the inspection, we got our rifles and marched out to practice for the Acceptance Day Parade, coming up September 11th weekend. At the end, our Reg. Training Officer told us he was pleased with our performance both during the practice and this morning, so he gave us phone and PKT-taking privileges back for tomorrow. It's kinda funny because I mentioned to my roommates that exact same thing possibly happening if we did well. They can't fool us.

Anyways, George and I are about to head off and get us some dinner. Just got back from shining a bit of the War Memorial, of which you may have seen pictures...that's one of our many steps to getting Recognized!

PS - my motivation is sitting down at the waterfront right now: that 100-foot yacht we passed on the Growler trip, owned by a KP graduate who happens to be the 9th richest man in NY...so nice.
