Severus,
As we've apparently both been too busy for much of a chat the last few days, this seems the best way to get in touch with you to verify your continued willingness to take those of my classes you are able the day after the Full Moons.
There will be six months when I will be forced to miss at least the morning classes:
14 Sept. - 7th years, 4th years, 5th years (double)
12 Dec. - 6th years, 4th years, 5th years (double)
10 Jan. - 6th years NEWTs, 7th years NEWTs (double)
9 Feb - 3rd years, 2nd years, 1st years (double)
8 May - 6th years, 4th years, 5th years (double)
6 June - 7th years, 4th years, 5th years (double)
I was actually wondering, since you mentioned my prior seeming lack of an organized syllabus, if you might not be interested in creating your own lesson for the fourth years and above. Now that I do not have to play 'patch up the holes' left behind by prior professors, I'm looking to make the courses more comprehensive, including, for more advanced classes, a larger emphasis on practical and real world examples than has been done before.
I was thinking that perhaps you might bring your potions expertise to bear. You and I both know Defense can draw from multiple disciplines, in the same way the dark arts we are defending against can. If you are interested, I'd like to suggest that the lessons you take in my absence could be conducted as a sort of seminar on the use of Potions for Defense. It is the one area I will never be able to truly teach sufficiently, or at all, and you would be free to assign whatever homework you feel necessary without fear of my negating it. (Of course, I hope we are past the point of assigning my classes homework as a punishment aimed at myself, in any case.)
As 9 February falls on a Friday and is the only time you would need to take the younger classes, I think I may submit that to Minerva as a day my courses will simply be cancelled this year. I would prefer the younger students have a firm grasp in the basics of both disciplines before trying to combine them.
Also, you may not yet be aware, but Hermione has agreed to take a position as my Assistant Professor. So, she will be able to give you a hand in my absence should you desire it.
If I haven't said so already, thank you for considering this, Severus.
Remus
P.S. Glamis and I are going out in an hour. We're taking Perry with us. Should be back by curfew.
