Yet Another Fic Meme
Meme nicked from draycevixen (and, through her, fawsley):
List the first lines of your last 20 stories. See if you find any patterns.
1. So you see, that's where it started.
2. Even Bodie would've admitted that he'd be hard pushed to find a worse time to realise he was in love with his partner.
3. Doyle tightens his fingers around the barrel of his pen and pushes the nib across the page, signing his name in an untidy sprawl.
4. Her world turns upside down the moment Gene kisses her.
5. The car sped on through the inky black night, darker shadows of hedgerows and trees flashing past as Ray Doyle drove a little faster than the current conditions would recommend, trying, and failing, to outrun his demons.
6. It wasn't as though Sam usually had trouble with decisionmaking.
7. Tyler was dead, to begin with.
8. Sam's enjoying this particular car chase, getting his adrenaline pumping in a way that it hasn't for ages.
9. From the start it was a well-oiled operation; they caught Sam just as he was leaving for the evening.
10. And so the scene is set.
11. Sam had finally got tired of replacing the rather shoddy lock on his door and given Gene a key.
12. Sam doesn't always hate 1973. Sometimes he thinks that the entire place was tailor-made for him.
13. I 'ate bloody stake-outs.
14. Maya wasn't, in any way, shape, or form a coward, but when news reached her that Sam had woken up from his coma, she spent the next few weeks avoiding the issue.
15. The sun beat down on him, relentless in its power, robbing man of energy and thought.
16. He sits on the edge of the bath and opens the notebook to a clean page.
17. The first time for that, well.
18. Guv: Definitely considers himself to be the alpha male of the nest.
19. It was not a usual job and Sam was grateful for that.
20. Sam's client for the night is an American.
I'm not sure if I can see any patterns in that lot. I seem to either write short, pithy openings or Bulwer-Litton entry grade ramblings. I'm also quite surprised there's so many 'present tense' fics on the list. (And one in first person. Shocking!) It's in reverse order, so you can see the gradual change from Life on Mars to Pros. The rather depressing thing about this little list is that it spans more than a year. Hmm. Definitely slowing down in my old age.
(Though fic is getting longer, I suppose. *eyes Pros Fic of Doom balefully*)
To that end, then. First five prompts gets a ficlet (or possibly more). Y'all know what fandoms I dabble in, so give me one and I'll get creative.
Oh, and in related news, the fourth annual Life on Mars Ficathon is open for sign-ups. Seriously, this is definitely one where 'the more, the merrier' is an apposite phrase. (I've also got a sneaking feeling that there will be more Sam/Sam fics before the end of the ficathon this year as well!!!)
