The Scariest Ride of My Life!!!

There's something about the near death that makes the not death so good...

This Memorial weekend Michael and I went to San Diego. We had a great time. Friday we were at my sister's and saw her walk for her diploma Saturday morning. I cried and was so overcome with pride - it was pathetic :-) There was so many times she could have given up or used life's downs as a reason to quit or "wait until a better time" - and yet she never did. She made it. (I was just a little jealous seeing as how I have let everything be an excuse for not getting my degree, but I digress) From there we had lunch and after a rousing conversation of throw-up and bile we drove on to San Diego. We spent a quiet night getting toasted on cheap wine and giggling. Sunday we saw X-Men 3 - I really liked it but the men thought otherwise. Around 2PM Cindy says, hey you want to go to Mexico and have lobster and margaritas on the beach? We say - hell ya!!

We walked over the border and then took a taxi down to Puerto Nuevo. A little village right on the water - closer than Rosarito. The best lobster I have ever had - including the really expensive places we've been. Pitchers of margaritas - salsa and chips - sooo good. After we had a very nice buzz we walked around and shopped a little. Then we looked for a nice taxi just like the one we got coming down with the mild mannered driver who didn't speed and gave us tourist info. What we found was...

JUAN

Michael had never been to Mexico before and this really could not have been written any better. Juan drove a very old car that didn't have working gages, brakes, transmission. In addition our driver lived by the old addage - you don't get paid anymore for sitting in traffic soooo - why sit in traffic? Instead make your own lanes even if it means that you drive very fast on the side of the road while other traffis is completely stopped and swerving at you because you're breaking the law. Also the best way to make people get out of your way is to ride literally on their bumper. And never, NEVER stop for pedestrians - they'll move, even if they have to jump. By the time we got out of the car my legs were shaking, my heart was racing and my buzz was completely forgotten. It was fabulous.

This morning we had a lovely breakfast and made great time driving home. We made such good time that we were able to pick-up our puppy and get home. Now here I am. Love you all - hope you had a great weekend,

Ellen
