First things first, CAS IS OVER NOW. I have just finished compiling my reflections, self-evaluations, and log sheets into one spanking, pretty neat, transparent duo-tang, and dun' it juss look gohgeous?
ohhhh yes. The graduation rates are so low. But then we also have bad education here, all around. I had a really excellent time in public schools and definitely got an excellent education, so it is hard for me to complain.
It really surprises me that anyone here would feel so strongly about the IB program and see it as a threat. I mean, is AP European history a threat? I took that class. Also, the standard freshman or sophomore history class is world history. Most people take a foreign language. To say that standard American high school requirements are America-centric is a lie. Sure, we take US history and US government, but I don't think this is inappropriate. We get taught a lot of civics our whole lives here, though. This is very American. This is what America is about. We love that we are America. We start learning about the Constitution and Democracy at 7 years old. It may be slight brainwashing, hahaha. Basically, I don't feel that I got an overly "American" education. It was very well rounded. But it, as is everything, what you make it.
Anyway, I did both AP and IB. I was an AP scholar and got my IB diploma. Big deal. I may be a bad person to discuss the limitations of American education because I have an excellent one. This may have to do with being from California. Educational requirements are still mostly a state issue and not a federal issue.
This has been a fun convo. You really should get sashes. It makes it all worthwhile.
