Last night was my first Moonday event at the Fenix. And although I heard it wasn't as busy as it normally is, I still had quite a good time. Definitely a fun to do for a Monday night. Luckily for me, it only happens once a month. Any more often than that, and I could get into trouble.

Also, today is the first day of my cooking lessons. A work friend of mine, who I recently discovered is an accomplished chef--gourmet even!--has offered to share with me his culinary mastery and show me the ways of kitchen-fu. I am really looking forward to this!

Today I'll be learning basic knife skills. This is pretty important considering that the only knife technique I am familiar with is a violent, downward-stabbing motion. And while that might get me far in a crowded room, it won't be too helpful in the kitchen. After wards, we'll move on to soups & sauces. Perfect timing since soup & sauce season is just around the corner.

Eventually I'll be learning more advanced techniques and dishes. Even though I'm pretty much getting the equivalent of culinary arts Cliffs notes, I do hope to get a lot of this. And it should lead to more experimentation in my own kitchen. If anyone is ever willing to be a guinea pig for my future creations, I'd be happy to cook for you. You are a brave and hungry soul indeed.
