Love bingo prompt: My Heart Will Go on
Casey didn’t hear Theo until he was right next to him.
Maybe it was the sand…or the waves…or maybe he was so lost in his own thoughts that he didn’t even pay attention.
He heard him take a seat next to him. For the longest, he didn’t say anything.
“The others are worried.”
He snorted.
“Master Finn has disappeared on his boat. Master Swoop is making arrangements. Master Phant is being…haha…whatever Master Phant does. Fran and Lily are busy holding themselves together.”
“What about you?”
“What about me?”
“How are you doing?”
He felt a wave of bitterness at the question.
“You aren’t Lil or Fran or RJ. Don’t come around pretending to be Fraud. Just…leave me alone.”
“We have left you alone for a week.”
“Everyone grieves at their own time.”
“I know.”
“So, go away.”
“I am not going away.”
He felt his eyes started to itch. He wasn’t going to cry. Not again.
“It is my fault.”
“No, it isn’t.”
“Yes, it is! I wasn’t fast enough! I couldn’t get to him in time.”
“We were there, Casey. We couldn’t get to him either.”
“But I was closer!”
“Lil has the speed of a cheetah and she couldn’t get there either.”
“STOP IT, Theo. Just stop it, okay? I get what you are trying to do and…just don’t… okay.”
“There is a difference between grieving and guilt.”
He felt like he has been punched in the stomach with his words.
“I….It was my fault”
He was frustrated with RJ before the fight with Dai Shi. He just lashed out and said some stupid stuff. Now, there was no take backs….RJ was gone.
“I am going to tell you something that I never told anyone. Not even Lil.”
He turned to look at Theo and frowned. What could Theo have to say?
“I have a brother.”
Okay, that got his attention. He never knew that Theo had a brother.
“Before I left for the school, we had a huge fight. He didn’t want me to go and I wanted to go. We said some things that we shouldn’t have. We haven’t spoken in four years until yesterday.”
“You called him?”
“I did. I realized something…well…I realized it earlier but I wanted to wait until we defeat Dais Shi. I had to let it go…the angry and the guilt. So you can expect a visit in the near future from my brother.”
“I can’t do that.”
“Why not?”
“He is gone!”
Theo snorted slightly.
“I forget sometimes that you just started when Dai Shi was released. We believe that when we die…we return to her…to the earth or the Spirit Realm. So…he is there. Listening if you want to talk,” Theo said as he patted the ground.
“Are you sure?”
“I am not…but I believe in my training and my lessons. Sometimes…I would talk to Master Mao. I always got the sense that he was listening.”
His throat tightened slightly. Theo believed it.
Theo got up from the ground and dusted himself off.
“Perhaps, you should try it,” Theo said as he turned to walk away.
He watched as Theo walked down the beach and disappeared from view. He took a deep breath and started to talk.
“Hey, RJ…How are you? I hope that you are well…where ever you are. First off…I am sorry. I am so sorry for a lot of things. I just wished that I could take it back or do it over again. But I can’t….I just wished…that you could forgive me.”
He looked around for a sign or anything.
He heard something rumble softly into his ear.
One of hardest lessons in life is not others to forgive but you to forgive yourself. That…and getting pizza sauce out of clothes.
He nearly jumped at the familiar voice and looked around for anything.
Nothing…
He burst out a laughing about the pizza sauce thing.
It was so RJ.
He bowed slightly to the ocean.
Thank you, RJ.
End.
