Shit I haven't done this shit in a while so let me bring some of you up to speed.
im in iraq now (which means im still in the army)
i have a wife
when i get back i will be in NC
i haven't been in touch with really anyone
my brother is worse than me
yup yup yup ladies and gentlemen its weird. what im really writing about is my buddy WOB if you are reading read on. but i was reading his LJ and i figured out something. Most of the people that graduated in 2002 are just really starting life. Now let me explain:
1) We are all now 22/23 years old now old enough to drink and smoke and really have no one tell us what to do, except the cops
2) People start to look at us weird if we are still living in our parent house. (* i haven't live in my parents house since 18 and im not fucking bragging)
3) we are able to star, video, and buy web based porn. that's right in alabama you have to be 21.
4) VOTE OR PUFF DADDY WILL KILL YOU!!
5) we can have kids and really not feel bad about because we are not teenagers and you should have gotten all your heavy drinking out of the way in the past two years.
6) join the army, navy, marine, air force or peace corp
7) look at the movie "Dazed and Confused" as a historical video because Affleck was young and unknown. and it showed what our parents did before us.
8) we can consider Nirvana and Pearl Jam as Classic Alternative (think about it)
9)you don't use AIM or Yahoo as much anymore
10) ***** This is what i had to build up to *****
most of us are not doing any form of education anymore. we can not say that we are in school and we have to get our own insurance now because we are not in school. this is where some of us are really considered adults. (unless the court has charged you as an adult and sent you to jail) this is our real first steps to retirement. bills will start to pile up. our taste for nice stuff things in the world will change. Monkey-suits will be apart of our everyday wear. We can get married and divorced. our lives are changing.
now look at this we go start school at the age 5. we go until we are 18. 13 years to make yourself ready for college. college is another 4 years (5 years if you play Auburn football. 5 year seniors will take Auburn all the way this year WAR DAMN EAGLE!!) that brings the count up to 17 years of education. If you decide to go get your Masters in whatever you choose it another 2 years or so. that makes 19 years if education to make you ready for work. just short of 20 years right. but now you have to do another 20 years until retirement. And live comfortably. but if you did 19 years of schoolin' you should be more comfortable than the people that went straight into the job corp.
life is a series of 20 year build ups. lawyers and doctors do about 20 years of education to get where they are and live comfortably. teachers are just waiting to hit ten year so they can lock in their jobs and live comfortably but still do jobs after they retire. military does 20 years so they can have more income when they get out and go work for another company. (i have seen this to many time since i have joined.) this is the story of everyone's life and it will not get better. it wont. nothing changes just rearranges.
but yeah it life and thats how it rolls. we just have to remember our friends and heroes of our past and just continue.
And it'll happen once again
you'll turn to a friend
someone that understands
and sees through the master plan
But everybody's gone
and you've been there for too long
to face this on your own
well I guess this is growing up -Blink 182-
