unimportant stream of conscienceness

It's raining. I feel like the rain today. Our new washer is being delivered in approximately 10 minutes, which is good considering I'm down to a few t shirts, a thong and 1 pair of uncomfortable and unflattering jeans. Not to mention I have to wash my holiday party dress so I can wear it again to one of the (too) many holiday gatherings in our calendar. Last year I don't think we went to any. This year there's 8 I can think of off the top of my head. Some are (or will be) thoroughly enjoyable, but most awkward and uncomfortable. Such is life. All in all, it's nice to have social obligations I guess.

Another semester has come and gone, successfully as far as I can tell except the paucity of field work I've done. Having my own vehicle and not having to rely on anyone to take me out there would be ideal but it's just not feasible. Now it's really raining outside, I mean like when it's sheets of water instead of drops. Poor delivery guy. Maybe he can back into the garage.

I can think of umpteen-million things I'd like to do in this new house to really make it a beautiful home, but the thought of putting that amount of money into a place that isn't mine bothers me. We're the ones that have to live here, so we should enjoy it... but I don't know... I mean the landscaping is different. It's a hobby. I don't care if it adds value to the house really. But things like nice hardwood blinds for the bay windows in the dining room.. that's seriously expensive and a custom thing so even if I did take them when we leave there's no guarantee that they would fit where we went next.... BUT... how awesome they would look here right now..... I'd also like to put a little bar out on the patio, a hibachi. We've got plans that already amount to a few thousand dollars (including some furniture that we'll be taking so I guess that doesn't count) but BLAH there's SO MUCH more we could do! The landscaping will actually be the most expensive I think even though we're doing it ourselves and I have a decent connection for plants through work. It's the soil and pavers that are the expensive part. Oh well.

I've got ideas for a nice succulent/cactus bed, something like this around an old oak stump in the back yard:

and then there's the ultimate butterfly garden, to be put in the side yard, something like this (but not quite as large) :

For the front of the house we've got a bromeliad bed under the oak tree in the works, something like this:

and a bunch of other stuff, snow bushes and lady palms in the front of the house.  We DID put in a nice little croton bed already, looks vera vera nice. :)

Such big plans.. so little $...
