Plotting Ebilness Day!! + (Long Delayed) Banana Post :D

Sep 15, 2008 23:13

No we're not planning to send bananas through the local postal service :) That will take too long. (By the time they open the package there'll just be flies) So perfect!

A Photo-Documentary of the Making of our Thesis: Automated Banana Peeling Machine :D

Me with 50kgs of bananas :D

A brief background before I continue, no, you won't find any techie stuff here, just the good parts that happened behind-the-scenes during the making of our thesis :D

And to clarify, the bananas in the title pertain to "Saba" :D I'm not very sure of its international name but we usually see it being referred to as Cardava. They're smaller, fatter and rounder than the usual bananas purchased on supermarkets. This is the type banana used to make banana chips and majority could only be found here in Philippines (and some in Malaysia I think) :D that's why it's illegal to bring out a Saba tree outside the country (not that it'll thrive in a non-tropical environment :D). So to help out the local banana processing industry, since you need to peel the banana before you could process it, and at present there is no known mechanism to peel the banana (saba) mechanically the group decided to take on the challenge! :D (I initially suggested we build a gundam that flies instead ahehe ♥ :D)

"We have too much free time"

From left to right: Joanna, Me!, Diana. I still had long hair back then >.> This was taken around April. We were just beginning to fabricate the first part of our thesis. (And the second part wasn't working properly yet >.>) So it was basically a gamble to enroll for the term :D (Because if we don't we'll get delayed for so long)

The only guy in the group is Mark (And he's actually prettier >.> damn him!! haha) As you can see, were actually working on our thesis in a parking lot :D (of course we made sure to clear the area from expensive cars when welding and grinding XDXD~~)

This is a staged photograph :D Joanna was complaining she was doing all the taking of pictures and wasn't included in most of them :D So she joined in (and was supposed to look busy) while we were mounting cylinders on the table ^^

It's one of our rain-breaks :D >.> We literally had to stop working when the rain gets too heavy. Even though there's a roof above our heads, the rest of the area was open. So rain + strong winds = wet area. A strong enough rain shower floods the area. Since we're working with electricity and tools, it's not a good idea to get them wet. We can't start welding since the ground was full of water, and we liked to finish our thesis alive. We managed to short circuit a grinder and an extension cord though :D. And every time there's even the slightest sign of rain, we quickly grab the PLC and stash it inside one of the cars :D (1)We just borrowed it, (2)It's the most expensive part in our thesis, (3)It'll be a nightmare to rewire the thing >.> especially when our deadline was near.

And we were lucky to have a storm behind our backs throughout the two weeks before our reliability run. Joy.

Another hard at work pic. And yes, I'm holding a welding rod :D Not just any ordinary welding rod, it's our stuck-banana poker! :D

The camera was supposed to take a picture of our dirty, sap-filled hands, and yet it decided to focus on Mark's clean arm. >.>

This is another of Joanna's I'm not included in the pictures pic :D And you could see here clearly, why we had trouble looking for solo shots of me looking busy ^^ I apparently have a camera sensor built-in :D

Pizza Break! :D We looked rugged and dirty from all that work but still managed to muster a smile for the camera :D

hehe Joanna's really hungry XD~~ *hides before she could strangle me for that comment*

I don't know how this happened but it's included in our Pizza Photoshoot :D It's sort-of cool so we used it as background for our video and final presentation during defense! hahaha XD~

The broom he's holding is what we use to sweep away flood water! (and what I use to practice flying when no one's looking XD~ )

Working even at night (and taking pictures every chance we get XD~) Oh and Diana's talking on the phone and not doing a weird dance XDXD~~

Pink Day 1 :D This is pure coincidence :D This is taken at school the day after our first reliability run. And what's weird is that the following day we were all wearing yellow ^^

Also our classmates :D They did a reverse vending machine for their thesis :D From left to right: Gary, Herbie, Ronnie, Gavin, Wyzel.

This is cramming before the deadline for the submission of the documentation draft :D We were working at school and you'll never guess we haven't been sleeping for the past few days haha XDXD~~

The calm before the storm :D We were finalizing the presentation for the defense. To settle who among us will present to the panel we decided to draw lots! A few days before, we also drew lots to determine who will present for some sort of event and it just so happened that it was Diana who suggested this method of choosing, it was Diana who prepared the stubs AND it was Diana who was lucky enough to get the marked stub. :D We called it fate XD~

So I decided to test the theory that whoever makes the stubs, gets it himself / herself. I made the stubs this time and sure enough I picked the marked one. We decided to do it two more times. Once is coincidence, twice is bad luck but THRICE IS DAMNED FATE!! HAHAHAHA!! >.> I tried to squeeze myself out of the predicament by reasoning that the panel would be the one to choose the presentor. How right was fate XD~~

Pink Day 2! :D We thought pink was our lucky color, so this one's planned :D

Another group of classmates! :D They're doing an adjustable wrap around labeling machine :D Left to right: Jerome, Charles, Jerry, Winnie, Hector

During defense, our panel left the room for an emergency discussion about another group. :D What better way to waste time (and relieve some stress) than to take pictures!

Another group pic! Amount of pictures is directly proportional to the amount of time the panel was gone O__O We took around 20 :D yeah that long O___O

Pink Day 3! ^^ Again this was unplanned. Though Mark isn't in the picture (he left earlier) he was also wearing pink (again!!) This is one of the final days I had my hair long :D While we were making our thesis, I made a bet with my groupmates that I'd shave my hair off if we don't get a Gold Thesis Award, our goal since the beginning. ^^ Sad to say our grade was 0.5 short.

I was unsuccessful in going bald ^^ But my hair was cut really short instead. I was still in grade school the last time I had hair this short. I was decided to have my hair shorter than my current do (because Mama will kill me if I do go bald ^^) but my hairdresser wouldn't cut it any shorter :D he said Mama will kill him if he makes it shorter

Oh yes, we were taking pictures even when crying. :D

Another group pic after crying while throwing curses here and there

And finally a group pic with Sir Marlon, our thesis adviser. (Because during documentation we also found out we didn't have one with him yet, despite the number we had of ourselves XDXD~~ )

^^ And we had to take another one since the first one didn't go so well. :D

All the pictures here are either from Joanna or Diana :D more could be found here

-End of Photo-Documentary- :D

If anyone might ask about the icon, no, I'm not a SuzuxLulu shipper :D The first time I saw the illustration from the ending song it was screaming Suzaku ♥ I just did it some justice :) Damn cause it's the first picture of Lulu looking sexy and he just had to look so gay in it >.> Gay-er than him in a cape even >.>

Oh and there's a gay-er version of that icon hahaha XDXD~~~ I'll post it up if anyone's curious enough to see. XD~~
