Few redundant thought on Liverpool
Today, as usual, I was browsing through ONTD_Football and I was particularly interested in THIS entry.
My question: THE FUCK IS THIT????? I know that footie is almost exclusively about money right now, but COME ON!!! I know, you're probably thinking "hello captain ovious", but I really had no idea what was going on the L-pool's financial aspect.
First of all, How could you ever think to sell the club to someone like Tom Hicks. I realize that they probably didn't have a lot of options, but take a look at what he did to Corinthians! I'd rather die by myself than give the club to someone who know NOTHING about football (and I'm not saying thins because he's American).
Someone people in the comments were drawing comparision between 'Pool and Chelsea. Maybe Liverpool was looking for another Abramovich. I think the fundamental difference between Hicks&Gillett and Abramovich, is that Abramovich was actually minding his own business (or at least trying to). The owners are businessmen, they're not football managers or anything. Abramovich didn't try to "govern" Chelsea by himself. He took care of something he's familiar with: the finances, and left all the technical aspects to people who knew their jobs. One of the first things he did was hiring Jose Mourinho. It was risky to put so much money in one man, but as a good businessman, he knew that on a long term scale, it would benefit the club (and himself). After that, he fulfilled every single Mourinho's wishes. Buy Drogba and other expensive players? Okay no problemo, the better our squad is, the bigger are our chances to win. Needless to say that Roman, being a wise guy, understood the importance of not pissing off the fans. Also, one of the rare moments that Abramovich actually forced a decision on the club (the purchase of Shevchenko), he failed. This example illustrates again that owners should stick to their jobs.
Now this is a successful story. Hicks and Gillett were apparently too thick to understand and apply this formula. I don't know all the details, but as I heard, Rafa was asking for new players. They didn't help much. Now even Torres himself announced that the club needs new blood. The only noob they'll probably have is Maxi Rodriguez for 2M euros. And like it wasn't enough yet, there are rumors that Torres and Gerrard could be sold. GERRARD!!! GERRARD!!! STEVEN FUCKING GERRARD!!! You don't sell Gerad even if the world stops turning and Martians invade earth for fuck's sake!!! Not only the owners put the club in debt, but they don't even want to back off! (Hicks doesn't want to sell his share of stock). Now there's this absurd story with Tom Hicks Jr and his big mouth. SHUDDUP YOUR FACE and don't ask people to blow you if you can't take care of a club properly goddamn!!!
