The terse rub of your stubble
on my bared skin
left me raw for feeling.
I'm girl who's having trouble
dealing with a past
marred by mistakes made in the name of
living life to the fullest.
You want to know the truth?
I AM embarrassed by my baggage
and the way that I acted. I don't
come to you empty handed.
I stood outside in the first snowfall,
a blanket of white on my red car
and the earth hidden beneath my feet.
I asked you for forgiveness,
my breath make smoke in the air,
each word measured
and a little scared.
I heard only silence.
So I did what I do best--
after all, you did pretend to be sleeping when I left.
