time to bass the music
last night i fell asleep under the influence of a peach beer and nachos (thanks drew and lauren), coupled with buffalo kickers (thanks john) which were incredibly spicy. needless to say, i was in dream city: but i only recall one dream. everyone on the planet was lined up single file, and everyone had an instrument in their hands. there were millions of millions of people, and everyone had a clarinet or a guitar or a flute. some people had a kazoo or a piano or something, but everyone had an instrument. i personally, had a tenor sax, which is strange because usually i play alto or soprano sax. (most likely explanation: the impromptu jam session that broke out friday night featured me on the tenor sax.)
so here we are in line, and in front of me is the infamous brian theurer, carrying an upright bass.
"wow," i said.
"Yeah," he said. "i can pretty much go anywhere with this."
so, the line was moving, and there were thousands of bleachers all along the way. the people with suckier instruments just got out of line and sat on the bleachers closest to the beginning of the line. brian and i were in line for quite a while, and eventually the line got concentrated with more and more people that played as they walked and got better and better. eventually, it was time for brian and i to get out of line, and we did so in at the same time. brian took the upright bass to the top of the bleachers (an impressive feat) and another sax walked past me to the other side of the bleachers.
"Are you coming, brother?" brian asked.
and i followed the sax player to the other side of the bleachers. i was all kinds of confused. i didn't like that dream and, i file it under nightmare.
