Loved, LOVED the movies I saw this weekend. Been meaning to see them all, for different reasons. All genius in their own way.
My clever honey rented 2 DVDs: The first was 'Zombieland' - genuine humour with enough horror to make you jump, along with a few touching scenes. Awesomeness. Really makes you wanna swing a baseball bat into the undead...
Went to 'Bright Star'at Victoria on Sat. Biopic that focuses on the relationship between Romantic poet John Keats and his neighbour/muse/secret fiance Fanny Brawn. Directed by Jane Campion. Utterly beautiful & worth it for the costuming alone, yet fabulous pacing, pathos and realistic acting.
Sat night was for 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' arguably Terry Gilliam's finest film yet. Brilliant concept, gorgeously sumptious design, fabulous storytelling: mythical yet avoiding of cliche, and also an acting masterclass. Only quibble is I'm not a fan of Tom Waits. And it's a shame that Mr Gilliam is yet another bloody writer/director who doesn't see that women make up half the world and thus deserve AT LEAST a frikkin quarter of the active roles.
