I just got back from my little weekend away with Joanne in Hay-on-Wye. There is a literature festival there every year and we decided to go and check it out. The town is as pretty and interesting as ever and, being a place famous for it's ridiculous number of second hand books shops, I found plenty of things to spend my money on, including a book that folds out into a 3D haunted house board game! (Joanne wouldn't play it with me)
The festival itself was a bit dissappointing. It wasn't much to do with literature, nobody we'd heard of/could stand was speaking and it was more like a trade show with all these rndom businesses selling over-priced crap and everybody being really pretentious and wind-baggy. We spent most of our time in the town itself and got a room in a house belonging to a nice family (through a special service and Hay has hardly any hotels and they get booked for the festival years in advance) and they invited us to watch POTC2 with them on Saturday night. I'd not seen it before and God it was a slog!
We found to resturants that made nice food, and on the way there we passed a pub called 'The Prancing Pony' which Joanne insisted we go in because apparently it has something to do with Lord of the Rings. It was a complete dive with a scary barmaid of about 65, and cobwebs on everything. never again Joanne, not even if you do puppy eyes at me. Then for dinner, we found a place that did a delicious fish pie, so I was appeased.
It was nice.
I was going to go into Coventry tomorrow, but I think I'll be knackered and I'm going to help Joanne take stuff over to Jen's in the evening, so I'm going to go grocery shopping and make Jen some vegan cookies or something, as she's been poorly and might appreciate some cheering up.
How's your weekend been?
