Fandom: Battlestar Galactica (2003)
Character: Sharon Valerii (Boomer)
Spoilers: Downloaded
Genre: introspection/character study
Notes: this song is the quintessence of Cylonity.
Summary: Boomer reflects on the faith in those around her, including her own in the process.

Why are the robots so sad?

Each and every one of us still prays
Hoping for evidence, looking for clues
All of the robotic families
Searching their circuitry for what remains - Shiny Toy Guns, 'When They Come For Us'

"Do you believe in God?" - That was the Six's line. So sure in their truths, so certain of their reality as one of God's chosen. Sharon stared out across the square, watching as several drones worked to construct another cafe, another little meeting place for multiple duplicates of robots who had faith to lead them to believe that genocide was virtuous and true.

Three, too. Three believed in God, though Sharon could see it was a belief tempered in cynicism. As though Three had interviewed enough angels to know that God wasn't all he was purported to be. But he was still useful, still something she believed in. Otherwise her world would come crashing down.

Others had their own levels of belief. Most of the Eights were effusive in their certainty. It made her sick. She didn't want to be one of many.

She had never believed she was anything but who she was. Sharon Valerii, raptor pilot and human. So human that she resurrected as a machine she'd learned to hate. It was twisted, and it made her angry.

And she was trapped here, on Caprica. Trapped with no way forward.

She could never go back, the fleet, the Galactica, would see her as the enemy now. One among many for them to destroy.

My people did this, she thought, staring at the rubble the centurions were shifting.

Our precious God did this, allowed this.

God. A concept she didn't want to believe in, and knowing what she did, couldn't.

Maybe one day, that would allow her to come to terms.
