"Kara, where are you going with that?"
"With what?" Kara was trying to sound innocent. Unfortunately for her, Sam knew there was no such thing as an innocent Kara Thrace.
He sauntered closer, still-careful of his wings, even on clouds that felt completely solid, "Is that a water balloon?"
"I have no idea--"
Sam pounced, hands sliding around her waist as he peered over her shoulder at the thing she was trying to keep out of his sight. Her wings wiggled, trying to block his view, and he chuckled, "Uh-huh. So whatcha doin' with it?"
Pushing up on her toes, she kissed his chin, "That's for me to know and you to find out, Sammy."
This whole being angels thing had taken getting used to. For some reason, they'd ended up going the traditional route, with wings and haloes (Kara's liked to slip), and clouds to walk on.
And there were definitely interesting perks to having to be creative when having sex. Two sets of wings made things... confusing, at times, and sometimes Sam had the feeling they were flying while they were frakking. But it didn't really matter, it was still hot and new and Kara Thrace, face flushed and eyes wide and dark as she looked at him.
"Me to find out, huh?" he teased, hands sliding up to her breasts. They'd taken to wearing their tanks, the backs slashed creatively. There was something comfortable about the familiar garments. It also mean he could get his hands on her a lot more easily than if she were wearing one of the toga-like things they'd seen on a few of their fellow angels (Sam was pretty sure he and Kara scandalized a lot of them).
"Yeah." She wriggled against him, then pulled away and turned, dashing across the cloud and diving down, wings unfurling with a snap.
Sam was right behind her, laughing as they spiraled down to the planet the colonists had named Earth.
About halfway down, he spotted their goal: a man walking up a mountainside, his head bent down, his body working to stay balanced between mountain and pack. Sam thought he looked a little familiar, though it took another swoop to get him low enough to be certain.
"Kara--"
"You're not the boss of me!" She shouted back up at him, laughing giddily.
Sam burst into laughter of his own and decided that maybe there was nothing he could do to stop her. He could have just pulled up a nearby cloud, but he was pretty certain he'd get in trouble even if he wasn't involved.
Though, in 'heaven', trouble wasn't the sort of thing that was easy to avoid. You could accidentally step on a butterfly and earn "God"'s Wrath. Sam wasn't going to live that one down for centuries, he was sure. And the angel that had taken the aspect of Gaius Baltar still snickered at him every time he walked past. So, on the whole, Sam was willing to share in the spoils, as he'd get blamed for the transgression anyway.
Below them, the man paused in his endeavors and stared up into the clouds, as though searching for something. Kara froze and Sam was able to catch up with her, wrapping his arms around her from behind and barely avoiding her wings.
They were hovering, which wasn't possible, but they'd learned to do it, anyway.
"He can see us."
"Nah." Sam loosed a hand and waved lazily down at the man, who didn't register the movement. "He's just resting."
Kara wriggled and echoed the wave. Lee Adama's face still remained impassive, though he looked tired.
"You're right," she sounded smug and pleased, "He can't see us."
"That's good." Releasing her, suddenly wondering if she'd be able to go through with it, Sam settled back on a patch of cloud that had conveniently appeared. "So, what do you think he'll decide it is?"
"Lee? He doesn't believe in anything supernatural or Godsly." Tilting her head, Kara contemplated the man below them, who had resumed his toil up the hillside. "Didn't want to even believe I came back from the dead."
"I'm not sure I believe it."
"Even now," she asked, looking over her shoulder and wings at him, her eyes oddly thoughtful.
"Yep. Even now, with all of the wings and haloes and clouds and flying between the stars without a viper. Sometimes, I think I'm going to wake up still submerged in that frakkin' tub." He was a little shocked at the bitterness and anger in his voice.
"Hey." Kara was back in his personal space, hand snaking behind his back to grope his ass, "Wanna see somethin' funny, baby?"
"Sure."
Nudging him again, she hefted the water balloon, tossing it and catching it once before she whipped her arm around, then back, snapping it towards its target.
The water balloon gained a little speed before it passed into reality, where it smacked into the back of Lee Adama's head. He jumped and whirled, swearing and sputtering, hands clenching for a gun he no longer carried.
Kara clapped gleefully, spinning around and dancing on their patch of cloud, "It worked! It worked!"
Glancing up, Sam didn't see anyone else watching them. He closed his eyes for a moment, and when he opened them, he was holding an identical water balloon. "It does, huh?"
"What--" Kara was laughing as he threw, his aim as good as it had been before he died. "Sam!"
The balloon whomped into Lee's chest, splashing his front completely.
Lee glared up at them, as though he might actually be able to see them now.
"Great shot, honey," Kara said gleefully as she practically danced in the air. She waved both arms at Lee, "Can't see us, hah!"
"Kara Thrace. Sam Anders. To what do I owe this damp pleasure?" demanded Lee, glaring impartially at both of them.
Kara froze in mid-gesture, and stared at Lee. "You can see us?"
"Frak, yes. Now would you kindly explain yourselves? Or has getting wings turned you into five-year olds with no manners?"
"Ding! Nail on the head, Lee," Sam said cheerfully. He wafted a draft of warm air at the human. After all, killing him with some random bout of pneumonia would look really bad.
"Gods, Starbuck I expect this of. But you, Anders?" Looking disapproving and like the CAG of old, Lee shook his head. "The things I never expected."
Kara shrugged, "Don't remember all the stories about us on NewCap, do you."
"No. No, I was busy with--other things, then."
"Somehow, I think we've out-stayed our welcome." Sam nodded to Lee and grabbed Kara's hand, "C'mon, you know who is gonna come looking for us soon. We should get out before then."
"Yeah. 'Bye, Lee." Waving her hand at him, Kara turned and pushed up from the cloud, rocketing into the sky a second later, her wings flapping lazily.
Sam shook his head, "Show-off!"
Behind him, Lee rubbed a hand over his face and turned back towards his mountain trail. He'd chalk this one up to heat exhaustion. Or maybe something else.
