Not many of you may know this anymore (ok, if you've made it down to the bottom of my ff'net account, maybe), but I started out in Buffy and comics fandom (with a side of Who, though I never did much writing there). Technically, I started out writing a Buffy/Excalibur crossover that has such painfully bad parts it has never been posted or finished, even if the sequel bit with Willow stuck in Limbo with the Soul Sword has been as there was this truly horrific crossover posted on the Buffyfic archive (yes, the big one that no longer exists, iirc) where Wolverine showed up and it was utterly atrocious in characterization and the Scoobies were all anti-Mutant Nazis.
Well. Dude. I knew I could do better than that.
matching slaying outfits ftl, though
Which is a very long-winded way of getting to my point. I was poking through old files, and opened some stuff at random, and--it's very annoying to read stuff that I know had a point, once. Like, there's one fic that isn't bad, but the opening makes no sense and I know it did at one point, but not anymore. It's frustrating. Sigh.
But I did unearth this, which is short and pointless, but was something I wanted to see in season two Angel (pls note, I loved girls back then, too). Faith meeting Holtz.
He wasn't what she'd expected. Or hoped for. Instead of Angel, the man looked like a lawyer reject. Or maybe a priest, given the fervor in his eyes.
Faith picked up her phone and simply watched him through the glass. All the time in the world was hers, she decided sarcastically. Yeah. Here in jail, you had time for everything. And nothing.
"You are sad."
"Perceptive. You gonna tell me I'm anorexic next?"
"Anger."
"Not really." She lapsed into silence again. He could take his time and get kicked out at the end of his 20 minutes. Or he could fucking ask his questions and get it over with. Maybe he was there to save her soul?
"You fought Angel."
"Angel?"
"The vampire with a soul, dear." He smiled at her start of surprise. "Oh yes. I know all about him. He is an old... enemy."
"Oh, I get it. You want the goods on Angst-boy. Come to chat up the prison-bound headcase, see if she can spill the beans." She leaned closer to the glass, smirking. "Sorry dude, there's nothing to tell."
"You wish your revenge on him."
"Nope."
"Yet you tried to kill him."
"We all make our mistakes."
"The most evil vampire the world has seen. Did you know I had to watch my daughter burn after he turned her?"
"Your point?"
"He must be stopped."
Impatient now, Faith snorted. "Riight. Because, having a vampire on the side of the Light and Fluffy is such a Bad thing."
"You are impertinent, as well as deluded."
"So they tell me." Faith smiled sweetly and dropped the phone before leaning back in her chair. A lawyer would definitely have been more interesting. The vampire would have been nicer, not that he visited often. Just enough to remind her that she wasn't forgotten.
On the other side of the glass, the dude made an angry gesture and set down his phone as well.
Good. She had better things to do with her time.
Not.
Sigh. I miss writing Faith.
