Art, elven things, tea

After spending a morning rambling in a friend's post, I realize I miss talking to you guys and want to be more diligent about updating. :) So, as long as LJ is working, ahem *peers at how long it took the window to load*, I figured I'd fill in folks on what's up ( Read more... )

If you ever end up in Paris somehow (one never knows...), be sure to visit the Medieval Museum (Musée National du Moyen Âge), they have a very nice collection of medieval tapestries. I found it beautiful and I don't even have a special interest in textiles.

Someday, I'll make it overseas, and I will remember this and add it to my ever growing list of stops. :)

I was thinking about you the other day, btw. How are you and how are you doing?

Ooh let me add one more. :D If you are ever in Vienna (the Austrian Vienna!), my favorite recommendation is the Spittelau garbage incinerator / heating plant. (SERIOUSLY. I've talked a few people into visiting and they loved it.) It's right next to the Spittelau subway stop and it looks breathtaking.

I'm doing OK - my health is crap but slightly improving in the past few days. I'm posting a lot on the occultism filter and its subfilter, are you folks on those? (I'm not sure; they are both opt-in and I just put on people who asked, for the most part.)

Also, Skyrim is cool, the first game in the Elder Scrolls series that I enjoy playing.

Ok, that sounds awesome!
I also have Skyrim, but my time has dropped and I need to make some time to play it. :)

I just broke out the rest of the fleece I bought *mumble* ago and was washing it this weekend. I have too many things going at once, but I miss spinning. The ranch I bought them from is selling this year's fleeces, and I am so, so tempted.

I don't even go on Etsy any more, I have too many things that need to be made into more things already. My fiber stash has so much potential energy right now, I'm afraid to add to it.

Shh. It's not a problem, it's potential!

SPINSPINSPIN!

We could have a long distance treadledate?

Thanks for the reviews about the tapestries -- that's fascinating. I don't think I've ever seen any on that scale, but you share the experience almost as if I were there.

Hahaha to the Icewine. I'm similarly hooked on that stuff.

Thank you! I really struggled with the writing of that this morning, well, pretty much as I struggled with the viewing in some ways and really wished Beth was alive and with me, feeling like there are questions I am not asking, things I am not seeing--but I am not sure what they all were. Also? Very close to my period and area of study--that I haven't toucned in 15 years, but not my locale. My knighthood days and research centered around Joan of Arc, and that's 1412-1431. (Gods, I had to look that up. I kept thinking 1491, but that's the fall of Acre.)

So reading the review, and thinking about it now, we're at a point where warfare is going to be changing. hasufin already noted the castle shapes changing. A little quick wikipedia reading pings a lightbulb though--this is the time in medieval warfare when we are seeing a growth of artillary in the battlefield, and that was definitely evident. The whole thing was pikemen, cannons, seige for the defense against bowman, and a few soldiers with guns--enough that folks noted their presence in ( ... )

Let me see what happens with the yarn result and how much I have, before I make any promises on that, ok? Also, I knit slow. You might want to check out Sock Dreams, in the meantime?

Ooooh, magical Elven sheep fiber! Pics, pretty pretty please? Or a link to the Etsy store? I would probably be very tempted to buy some handspun yarn from you, if only enough for a pair of mitts.

I got it from Woolgatherings on Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/woolgatherings

Now, spinning yarn is easy. I could spin you some, but I can't guarantee a specific quantity, cause, that's hard to figure out for me atm. I think 8oz gets enough for socks or mittens, depending on how I spin it, but I have yet to try knitting with my handspun and seeing how it goes. Yeah, I know. Guilty of that.

Even just enough for something small like wrist-warmers would be awesome!

I could do it. Just let me get some more of it, finish the Icelandic wool, and see what happens. :) I can't make promises yet, but if I do, I'll let you guys know. And open an Etsy shop. :)
