Moving

Moving is much harder than I had previously anticipated. Sure, I suppose I've moved from a bedroom in one house to another, but that's not the same thing. I've also done study abroad where I only had 2 suitcases' worth of stuff with me.

This time, Eric and I have already done the whole "packing up all of our shit" phase - but it's still stuck in KS. We've been living out of suitcases for a full two months, and now that we're finally into our new apartment, we're still just living out of suitcases, and we have a mattress. We spent the whole weekend looking for furniture, and that is still my task this week. A delivery guy should be here before noon with a new desk setup for us - but we won't have chairs until tomorrow. Et cetera...

I think I've walked at least 26 miles since Friday of last week. We've been lugging around suitcases and bags, large bags of groceries, and furniture from IKEA. Yesterday I got to walk 4 of those miles with a huge bag or two of stuff (3 miles with a large IKEA shoulder bag of heavy stuff, and 1 mile with 2 heavy shoulder bags of groceries). And the craziness probably won't be over for at least one more week, if not two or three.

I feel bad, 'cause I haven't really had a chance to look for a job yet - and yet, I keep thinking just how screwed we'd be if I couldn't do some of this running around. Right now our apartment doesn't have lights in either bedroom or the living room, so we're stuck unpacking things only during daytime hours - but Eric works during daytime hours. By the time he gets home, we can't do anything to tidy up the place.

On the bright side, though, we're enjoying the new apartment, and once we get more settled, it'll feel so damned good to relax and enjoy our newly put-together place...

Off to look at furniture on WalMart.com while waiting for IKEA to deliver our desks! *o*
Love, Lyssa
