I was at Sim Lim Square the other day, looking for an upgrade bay caddy for a second hard disk for my laptop (well, technically it is my company's laptop). Most business models will come with an option for an extra bay at the expense of the optical drive for one of two purposes: more disk space (obviously) and RAID.
So, I was moving along, level by level and in the end I did not find any. There are however, lots of ignorant and people who are actually supposedly "experts" in this area, namely computer services. Here are the top five examples which I find both amusing and pissed.
5) Upgrade what? Never hear before leh. Dunno.
4) External one ah? USB or Firewire?
3) Upgrade bay? For what use? RAM ah?
2) Upgrade bay caddy? How to spell har? C.. A.. B.. B.. Y ah?
1) Upgrade for hard disk? Cannot put second hard disk. Not enough space then change bigger hard disk. Cannot upgrade one.
At least I found some shops which gave me decent answers.
- Nope. Business models for IBM easier to find.
- Only IDE, not SATA.
- HP sells separately meh? I dun have.
But, I am amazed at how these people actually survived being a repair/service shop if they do not know that this thing actually existed! I have been using one for my old IBM for years.
So, me being the sarcarstic type, started "educating" the ignorance ones. Example for the number 1) idiot.
- Of course you can upgrade. Mostly is for business models. You know why? Putting in another hard disk will increase storage capacity as well as if needed, some motherboards supports RAID function so that you can increase excess speed. You do know what is RAID right?
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
