One meme ends, another begins...
For those who weren't checking back, the ultimate winner in last week's poll-meme turned out to be the lovely Liv Tyler! Yay, Liv! *uses Liv!icon in celebration* Stealing Beauty is one of my favorite movies ever still -- I should rewatch that soon! And congratulations to Karen Gillan (Amy Pond), of course, too, who just in a very last minute vote this afternoon tied the poll! So they're *BOTH* winners! :) (When does DW come back? Is it soon?)
And then, for the new thing -- it's April! That means... Poetry Month! YAY!!!!! I look forward to poetry month all year long, you know. To start off, I'm posting Billy Collins' "Introduction to Poetry." Yes, it's a bit clichéd, but surely, it was designed to start off poetry collections? :)
"Introduction to Poetry"
I ask them to take a poem
and hold it up to the light
like a color slide
or press an ear against its hive.
I say drop a mouse into a poem
and watch him probe his way out,
or walk inside the poem's room
and feel the walls for a light switch.
I want them to waterski
across the surface of a poem
waving at the author's name on the shore.
But all they want to do
is tie the poem to a chair with rope
and torture a confession out of it.
They begin beating it with a hose
to find out what it really means.
