Today I got to pretend I was a graphic designer! The authors of the Heroes A2Z series (which I illustrate) asked me to design a cover layout for a new series they're publishing. A cover illustration and logo were provided, but the rest was up to me. When I first started the Heroes series (five and a half years ago), I designed that cover (and all the rest of the covers in the series going forward), but it's a pretty basic design, so initially with this project I was a little worried I wouldn't be able to make something snazzy and eye-catching like what I was vaguely picturing in my head. However, I think it's coming along rather well... I had the idea to use a rough sort of texture for the background, so I went outside and took a few photos of sidewalk and played with one of them in photoshop/illustrator and came up with something I like! If the authors like it too, that crack in my porch steps will be immortalized forever (in a heavily distorted form) on the book's back cover :D
Of course, some playing around with fonts happened. I've got my own favourite picks, but I'm waiting to hear back from the authors.
Sorry, I'm just talking about this thing and I don't have anything to show for it. When the book is out I'll let you all see!
