Finished laying in the type for my new project with Yen~ I still have to center it all and make sure things look pretty (which may or may not take more time than laying the text in), and there's a bit of cleaning to do yet with some of the scans... but so far so good :D I may be able to finish the volume this week if I work hard!
Sooooo... right now, the plan is for me and my bro and some of his friends to Chicago tomorrow afternoon, for a POLYSICS concert tomorrow night. Parents were/are concerned about the weather (winter storm warning is in effect here till 1p tomorrow), but the brother I'm going with (hi Brndn!) is still planning to make the drive down there a little after that, so hopefully the roads will be clear and that will go well. Mostly because we are very much looking forward to this concert (Polysics does US tours fairly often, compared to most Japanese bands, but this will be the LAST ONE with their awesome keyboardist Kayo)... but also because I'm craving tenpura like mad and want to eat some at the Japanese marketplace just outside of Chicago (yes yes I could go to one of the fine Japanese restaurants in town to get my tenpura, but those restaurants don't have a bookstore, do they? they do not. and on that subject, requests for Japanese books of any sort, anyone?)
And NOW, because Jane asked for it, I present to you my sketchy attempt at participating in Hourly Comic Day (last week Monday). Now you can see just how boring my daily life really is!
(there should be a little image description for each one if you hover your cursor over the image)
What can we glean from these comics? That the cats are my only company for most of the day; that, yes, I really am an illustrator more than a comicker (evidenced by my tendency to draw out the whole scene rather than neat little panels); what else? Hee. I felt like my days are pretty boring while drawing it. Maybe it looks different when you read it, though. Hourly comics are deceptive like that...
Also, I didn't write much in these. Partly because the house is empty most of the day so there isn't much conversation to be had; the other reason is I felt like I should show and not tell, so I didn't want to write out an explanation of what was happening in every panel, because I thought that was cheating. Looking at some other hourlies later though (I don't follow many webcomics, but Kate Beaton or Johnny Wander for example), describing is maybe a more common practice than I thought for this sort of thing. Oh well. This was a fun experience, in any case. It's too bad my brother who told me it was happening didn't even draw hourlies himself! Lame.
So, there's an average day. This one was a lot of drawing, but this week I've been doing more of my work on the computer (lettering). So it just depends what kind of work I have to be done on a given day.
