Man, this makes me angry. I never liked Xanxus in canon and seeing him from the Vongola's perspective just makes me want to smack him more. Timoteo is also spoiling him by not making a clear definitive position on his behavior. He has his reasons, but still...Grrrrr.

On another note, I agree with assyrian that this project will be a fandom classic. As far as I know, no one is working on such a detailed, complex exposition on the events leading up to the manga. It's wonderfully done and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I can't wait to see what you and Branch will bring us next.

My sympathies are with Xanxus, a little; it's not entirely his fault that he's been let to believe that he's the Ninth's son, or that he was let to get away with murder. The Ninth should have stepped up at /some/ point, instead of letting it go on and hoping that they'd all play happy families eventually.

I don't have any plans to write for the Varia at this moment; I think Branch has a few nibblings on that front, but ... we're mostly taking this project as it comes to us, so you never really know what's going to crop up next.

I have to say, I understand mentally your sympathy. However, while I was reading the manga I had no such feelings for ether Xanxus or the Ninth. It was kinda like this:

Was Xanxus led on? Yes.
Was he still a douche? Yup.
Did the Ninth make some poor choices? Hell Yes.
Did he try to fix it? Not that I saw.

+10 Stupid Points to all involved.

So I look forward to see if you guys can wring any empathy out of me with this project. ;)

*laughing* Yeah, there's a fair bit of stupidity going on for all parties concerned. That's a big chunk of my motivation--I mean, good grief, sometimes I read the manga and go "...oh god why?" and then have to try to rewrite it in my head so that things make sense.

The fixit starts happening a couple fics down the road from this one, in the one that's still called "The one that happens after the Ring Battles" because I'm just that good with titles. *snerks*

(Working with this arc is pretty fraught, though, so right now I'm taking a little break and doing something else entirely, since I need a break from all the angst and the confluence of Lethal Stupid.)
