whoops didn't mean to make this a full-fledged rant

I'm a huge Project Runway fan. Always have been, except for season...5? The one with Kenley and Leanne? That one I didn't finish. But otherwise, I've seen every episode. I frequent Project Rungay and sometimes I even check the comments when I want my brain to bleed out of my ears. Bad idea this time. People are complaining that Seth Aaron stated that he took inspiration from “1940s German and Russian military” and are now assuming that sweet, joyful, adorable SA is a Nazi.

What? The man who took Tim Gunn onto a trampoline? The one who lay down on the runway out of excitement to make a snow angel?

I know Nazis were humans too, but if anyone's a Nazi on this past season of PR, it wouldn't have been Seth Aaron. Just sayin'.

I WAS going to post this comment on Project Rungay, but I didn't want to cause MORE drama on poor TLo's comment board, so I'll just post it here and you guys can tell me whether or not I'm in the wrong.

Just for PR (as in Public Relations) sake, I wish that SA had said "inspired by Inglorious Basterds" or some such rather than "German and Russian military" which let's face it, is going to push some people's buttons.

I don't really understand why people are so riled up about him claiming inspiration from 1940s German and Russian military uniforms. I personally love history, and WWII in particular, and I know that they committed atrocities (what military hasn't? not to defend the Nazis or anything, but SA said nothing about Nazis before people twisted his words) but he wasn't literal about his interpretation. I figure it was more of a starting point than anything. If we're talking just clothes, SA was FAR less literal in his interpretation of “military” (no matter the era) than Irina was. If he hadn't said it, would anyone have noticed or remarked on it? No, I doubt they would have.
Now my question is why are people offended about his drawing inspiration from the era? Not to attack Margaret, but he didn't take inspiration from the history like Inglourious Basterds did, he took inspiration from the style of the period. Plus, if he claimed Inglourious Basterds as an inspiration, he would have been lying. I haven't seen the film, but I know enough about it that I would think a collection inspired by it would have a different feel than the one Seth Aaron presented. Just because it's the same place and time period doesn't mean it's the same.
If he had said 1960s-70s American military, would people be angry that he took inspiration from the atrocities committed in Vietnam?
At any rate, to quote season 2 (the best season in terms of entertainment): “Lighten up, it's just fashion.”

It reminds me of the recent Hetalia drama from Anime Boston, with the Germany cosplayers Sieg Heiling. In the discussion, a lot of people at the main comm mentioned that that's why his uniform isn't accurate for the time period: Nazis are bad. However, his uniform is still recognizable as German (the Iron Cross) and is still badass. Is Hidekaz a Nazi?
Germany is more than its former Nazi regime and Russia is more than its former Soviet state. I know that Americans as a whole seem to forget that, but it's true.

AT ANY RATE SA'S COLLECTION WAS AWESOME AND FUCK THE HATERS the end
